| Sorry for this guy. Often honest people are victims in the used cars market. Because only specialist should buy a used car. There's too much stolen cars, rebuilt and abused rent cars sold as a new car with low mileage that you really have to know what you're buying. Here's some things to keep in mind when you're buying a used car. From my experience dealing my used mustang (in the top 10 of the most stolen car in america ) · When there's smoke, there's fire. · Never believe something from a car seller that it cannot be verified. Because the job of the seller is to sell. Not to scare you with a list of things to do. · New 'used cars' doesn't exists · First call you do when you buy a used car is to the factory dealer with the vin. There's a lot of free infos you can get there. then a carfax and a check up to complete. · When a car is repaint there's a problem. · If you're not a professionnal mechanic you have to find one to buy a used car. · Deals will always exist. If you missed this car. Don't worry you'll find another one. · Vin are printed on a ton of parts on a car and they have to match. Finally. Research is never a waste of time. I'ld never understand why people will never purchase a used pair of pants at 20$ but they will spend over 10K for a car that is not even been verified. Shop a used car should be like putting your money in fire. It must be so scareable then when you sign the bill you should be 100% sure you got a deal.

| I read both parts...what is the latest on this story? Anyone know...That maze of replies on bimmerfomums is very hard to navigate. Have they gone to court yet or anything? Did the story continue more after he "got a called from a guy named 'Martin' in Chicago"? After investing over an hour reading, its likea soap opera, I NEED TO KNOW HOW IT ENDS DARNIT! |

| This is why I bought my E36 M3 from a local reputable dealer who wouldn't even touch a car with a problem and went over all the CPO inspections, etc... I paid $29k for a 99 M3 w/44k mi on it and 100k mi warranty but 0 problems, new brakes, new tires, and they've treated me like gold and been very very happy with my no hassle purchase. Sometimes you pay more but you get a better deal when dealing with reputable business's, that and they have something to sue their asses off for in the end ![]() I've bought a bunch of used cars from private people in my time without a too major problem but in general they all have problems, it's rare to get a trouble free used car. |

| I read this story, so sad. However, the guy was stupid for taking it after all the shadyness - if I was checking out a car to buy and the seller wouldn't let me go over it with a fine-toothed comb I'd leave in 2 seconds, no matter what car it was or how good of a deal it was. Speaking from experience with used cars since I work with my cousin who is a dealer and we go to auctions all the time, you REALLY gotta know your sh*t before you go buy a used car yourself. Know the typical problem spots for the car you're looking at and know how to tell if something is wrong with them, bring a paint meter to see if the car has been painted, always run a CarFax, get a compression/leak-down test, etc. If possible, bring a mechanic with you to check it out or have someone that knows their stuff to come with you. Pay them if you have to, cause it'll be worth it in the end. Just use common sense and keep a level head - don't let a good price cloud your judgement ![]() Sal
