| Williams.BMW F1 secure P1 and P2 for Montreal GP.. Well Ralf took his second consecutive pole today, and Montoya wound up 2nd. So BMW has excellent grid position for tomorrow.. let's go BMW!! "The two Williams drivers locked out the front row here in Montreal this afternoon, with Ralf starting from his second pole position in arrow, despite taking to the Gilles Villeneuve circuit early in the session.
Holding position firmly, everyone was on the edge of their seats when Michael Schumacher, the penultimate driver, appeared on track to challenge for pole. However, a small mistake from the Ferrari ace in sector one saw him finish third. Teammate Rubens Barrichello, who has been strong here all weekend, crossed the line for fifth.
Meanwhile, Renault’s Jarno Trulli crashed heavily in the warm up session, on the famous ‘Welcome to Quebec’ wall just at the beginning of the main straight. He also had a minor moment in the T car during qualifying when he went for a quick trip across the grass and was left down in eight place. Teammate Fernando Alonso was an impressive fourth, between the two Ferrari’s and is in a strong position for tomorrows race.
McLaren driver Kimi Raikkonen will start from the back of the grid after taking a trip across the grass in sector one. Instead of continuing on, the young Finn opted to abort the lap and return to his garage. Teammate David Coulthard didn’t have a good session either, the Scot left languishing down in 11th overall.
Ralph Firman, who started from fourth last after his impressive run in the wet yesterday, finished behind the two Minardi drivers after an off track excursion. His Jordan teammate Giancarlo Fisichella, also had a slight moment and he will start from 16th on the grid.
Another strong day for Mark Webber sees the Jaguar in sixth place while Toyota will be celebrating a strong run from Olivier Panis that netted the Frenchman seventh on the grid.
