point of the sunroof tilt?

Hi i own a 99 m3, with a sunroof. i see many people tilting their sunroofs (ie opening it just a crack at the rear of the sunroof), but im confused as to the point of this? the interior of the car does not open (and im under the impression only cars with moonroofs and manually sliding interiors can do this) and so there is no ventilation, why do people tilt their sunroofs? I know some people want the ventilation without the full sun on them that they get by opening the sunroof fully, but i also see no ventilation coming in by just tilting it (because nothing on the inside opens).. just increased drag.... unless maybe it provides some sort of downforce :P

it does vent, it opens up a crack. its nice when its wet out and you don't want it fully open, or if its just getting warm inside and is nippy outside.

When you crack the sunroof open there is some ventilation. If it is warm in the car I sometimes crack it open and it sucks all the warm air out.

Check yours out if it doesn't crack open, it is supposed to. What it does is extract interior air and also helps clear the rear window of any water after it rains. Of course, only if your windows have Rain-X it will work nicely.

hey yeah, every time i use the tilt, the interior piece doesn't tilt. Isn't supposed to have air come in or am I trippin'? Is it broken or is jus me??

The interior peice doesn't "tilt" the front (towards the front of the car) retracts back (to the back of the car) to let the interior vent.. The drag of the air across the open vent causes air to be pulled out of the interior of the car..

the sunroof tilted, creates a lot less drag than the sunroof wide open. so its helpful when you want fresh air and are motoring along at a decent (100+ mph) rate of speed. if two cars are equal and one has the sunroof open, he will get his ass whipped by the car with the roof tilted, its sick, but true...
