944 Turbo

What's up everyone. First post here. Figured I'd show off the cars a bit. I just bought this 944 Turbo a couple weeks ago. I'm pretty happy with it so far. Here are some pics:

I guess while I'm at it. I'll toss up a few pics of the Prelude. If anyone autocrosses around the DC area, you may have seen me out there before.

And one of the wagon while I'm at it (need a bigger garage). Nice sleeper, I like the turbo.

Thanks for the welcome!

That's good that there are a few other 944T guys on here. I can use all the advice I can get I'm currently in the process of getting it to "reliable" status. It needs a water pump and can't seem to pass emissions. After that, I want to get out and autocross it a bit, maybe do some road racing.

Ok, thats so not fair... I bought a 944 S the other day (like 3 days ago) and I was planning on taking pictures and posting.... which i will do in the near future, but it seems u have beat me to the punch.... Wish I could have afforded a Turbo, but then again, don't let that KKK turbo go bad... they are quite costly. It looks gorgeous though... Have fun with it. I love mine so far... PICS ARE COMING SOON!!!

And yeah, btw, we got like the same milage, and yeah, AUTOCROSSING WITH PCA RULES... Here in san diego I have a buddy who has been doin it for a few years, and it is by far the best autocross in town... BMWCCA, SCCA, and CorvetteCCA by far do not compare... also, I am goin to a Porsche driving school which my friend went to. They assign an instructor to you who has a relatively simalar car, and who has been racing for quite some time and my friend told me that its like a 150% improvement in your driving... Plus, it only costs like 250... so yeah, have fun with it, especially on the track, Porsche's are built for it!

That's awesome Echo, congrats on the car. But to be honest, I actually got it for $5000 which was a steal. The owner was buying a boat and just tossed it up on Ebay. It turned out it was in the DC area so I checked it out, did a carfax report and bid on it. Turned out great!

The PCA events are fantastic. My first autox with the Prelude was at one of thier events. The guy that rode along with me was really helpful.

As far as the mod questions above. It's already got a chip, I need to ask the owner which one it is. I can't get the damn thing through emissions so far, could be the Cat. I was going to run it in the stock class but with the chip I can't. Not a big deal, I hear that particular class around here is a little easier anyway. I'd like to get it solidly into the 300+hp range over the next few years. I hear much more than 400hp and you're going to get into some reliability issues. I'm going to concentrate on making it reliable, then check out the suspension, see where there can be any improvements. But Motortrend called it the best handling car in the world in 86. Of course that was awhile ago Perfect 50/50 balance though which is nice. No tail happiness of the 911 hehehe

I'll have to post some pics of my 951 when I get the chance, it too is a Red 86 951.

Great purchase, the cars can be a lot of fun, and if you need any help with the car feel free to email me, or stop be www.rennlist.com there is a great group of guys on that board with a lot of info to share.

Thanks klasic, I appreciate it! I'm enjoying this board already. I was going to begin looking for a few good Porsche forums. And rennlist was highly recommended so far.

I'll let you know if I have any questions. Thanks again.

It came pre-chipped from the owner. He's not sure the actual HP rating so I'm kinda curious. I've driven some pretty fast cars and this one impresses the hell out of me, especially for $5K.

As far as mods, I am going to hold off until I make it reliable. It's not a daily driver, but I still want to make sure it makes it back and forth to the autocross and road race tracks (the primary reason I bought it). It needs a water pump without a doubt. All of the dealers and shops have been fairly consistent with their estimates. It seems like there is a lot of labor involved getting down to the pump, so most recommend replacing some of that stuff since they are taking it off anyway. Sound right or no? I've heard it anywhere from a Porsche dealer to a small shop, even Autothority (which is $300 more expensive!).

After that (and VA emissions which it has failed twice now), I may do some suspension tweaks, and definitely add some sticky tires. I'm already in a modded class b/c of the chip so I figure any more won't matter all that much

Any suggestions?
