| I think it all comes down to boost. the more boost you have, the more its gonna hurt your engine.
which is more efficient? Turbo, no question, it uses energy that would otherwise be just shot out the exhaust and recycles it.
which provides more HP? they CAN be the same, but the turbo dumps your power increase at a certain point in the powerband. you could have very little boost at start up, but as soon as you hit 3500, you'll get a surge. a supercharger is a more linear power increase, just a general boost throughout the powerband.
which is better? depends on the application i suppose. if you want stupid high horsepower, i think turbo is the way to go. if you want boost on demand, a turbo has it just a downshift away.
if you want something easier to drive (IMO anyway, ive never driven a turbo aside from a 1.8T VW Passat, and that was an automatic) then the supercharger is the way to go. not a chance of hitting boost going through a turn, and its pretty much always on. parasitic draw on the engine has been taken care of by a few companies.
Eaton has a valve that allows air bypass, when the blower is off-boost, a valve opens up and the blower uses something like 3/4 of 1 horsepower (at a time when insane HP numbers isnt required anyways).
I dont have any real experience driving either for a long period of time, so I am not the best to be asking, but im giving some knowledge.
