Turbo and S/C guys.....

Down at the shop where I work, buddy brought in this MR2 turbo with a cracked head and we got on the topic cylinder head strength. Just out of curiosity, to the best of your knowledge, how many PSI can a BMW cylinder head take before it goes the way of the doe doe bird? ODBI, ODBII, etc.

this guy I know has a 328 and he's running 16psi. But he's only had it for 2 months, who knows how long it will last. I think that's a lot of boost, in my opinion. But he has EVERYTHING done as far as engine, pistons, rings, valves, everything!!!

But 16 psi, that's crazy I think.

I think the headgasket gasket would blow before the head. I had a 90 mr2 turbo and the head was damaged but that was due to overheating.

You can run 16psi but that doesn't mean its all power, you are just
ramming more heated air. Tell your friend to watch out, turbo or
s/c 16psi is alot of pressure. Here at AA I've seen cars run up to 10
psi and it's on a thin borderline.

However on a lighter nope I saw a 99 MCoupe running 21psi w/stock
internals, aa headgasket and aa w/a injection kit =). Just made 471hp
and 494tq at the rear wheels on a mustang dyno
