Talking Question about RMS - Supercharger + Aftercooler

I have a 98 M3 and am on the vurge of purchasing the RMS supercharger kit as well and their aftercooler kit. What I would like to know is if their kit is a good quality kit and worth the money? or is their a kit that I dont know about that is better in build quality than the RMS kit. If you have the RMS kit or another kit please tell me what you think of the kit you have experience with so I dont blow some serious cash out my exhaust....

I have the RMS kit with the aftercooler and an oil cooler. I really like the kit. The quality of the hardware is top notch. The only problem is that some people have had problems with their software. I actually have a little problem, my car has a flat spot around 4200 rpms, but RMS is going to fix it for free. I am sure you will get a flurry of replies tonight.

its not all about the price. Dyno numbers can also easily be exaggerated.

Nicholas is right for the most part. If I were to do it all again, I'd go with a Dinan kit. Do a search in the archives for RMS. You'll find a lot of interesting info. Im tired of telling my RMS story

I have to DISAGREE with Kevin and Mark because I have an ESS supercharger. It has been a complete nightmare. I will spare you my details, but offer some recommendations when looking at SC kits.

First off, know what the hell you are doing. If you don't know how a supercharger works or any of the following terms: a/f, afr, boost, fpr, pr, psi, MAF, the difference between intercoolers/aftercoolers, the difference between centrifugal/screw compressor SC's, then do some research first, you will thank yourself in the long run. Here is a great book to help you get started: "Supercharged" by Corky Bell. The book even includes a step by step install of a SC on a BMW Z3. (if your going to spend $4k+ on a sc, spend $30 on a damn book first)

Next, when looking at the different kits, know what you are getting. Some kits come with injectors and new chips (essential components) and others do not (a la my ESS kit). Without the proper tuning, you can severly damage your engine, not to mention underutilizing the potential power increases from the kit.

Next, BUYER BEWARE - buying something from a foreign country leaves you with little legal recourse. Supposing you order from somewhere overseas, there is no telling when you will receive the product, or what you will get when it eventually arrives. What are you going to do if they send you the wrong parts? (I have spent almost 1 year trying to get the parts I placed in my original order). What will you do if those wrong parts seize your engine and blow your tranny? Nothing! You are out of luck.

Lastly, what will you do if you have a problem with your new SC? Can you easily get new parts? Can you get the system tuned? Can you tune it yourself? Does your warranty really cover ANYTHING? Take a look at the disclaimers from the various companies - you will be suprised at what their "definition" of warranty is.

I know this isn't the normal: "dude you need a 6psi SC, pulley, injectors, mounting equipment, chip, and piping." I hope buy the time that you purchase a kit you no longer need to ask questions about what you need.

Good Luck

I agree with both Nicholas and psk,

RMS does not make the best software for BMWs. I also heard that some people had issues with its customer service as well.

However, if it's simple hardwares such as exhaust, I would buy a RMS simply because I like them.

There were talks before about putting softwares from another tuner on RMS's hardwares so you can get the best from both worlds. I am not sure if it's been done though.

Evosport has been tuning some RMS kits. But, they are develpoing their own kit, so i am not sure if they are still willing to tune RMS kits. If you are buying the kit new, have money to spend, and are not power crazy the safest bet seems to be Dinan.
