| Turbochargers or superchargers: Are they really save?? Before I'm gonna spend 4000$ I need to be sure if it's absolutely save to have a turbochargerd or a supercharger installed. I have a BMW 318i (M43 engine 116HP) I'm just wondering if the other stock parts from the car won't get damaged after putting in an extra 70 HP's on my car, like the transmission and the brakes and everything. WDYT? |

| I would suggest a new engine before you turbo or supercharge your car. Like a M3 or 325/328 engine. Most people will probbabbly tell you the same. OR go the route of Nitrous. Just my 2 cents

| If, for some reason, you don't want to swap the entire drivetrain, I'd suggest a downing/atlanta supercharger. www.downingatlanta.com I've heard excellent things about their kit. It's specific for your engine and has great output figures. I saw this on some site in regards to the downing/atlanta sc: The design consists of an Eaton 62 cubic inch Roots-Type supercharger mounted to a proprietary cast-aluminum intake manifold that replaces the stock manifold. With the same Eaton supercharger that Mercedes uses in their SLK roadster, you can now exceed the performance of 6-cylinder engines. This type of unit provides better engine response with no lag time. Unlike centrifugal superchargers and turbochargers, which provide most of their power at high rpm, a Roots supercharger like the Eaton delivers broad usable horsepower and torque all through the rpm range. Good luck, Brian Oh yeah, talk to Stealth on this board. He has a d/a supercharger on his 318ti.
