Limited mod. potential for non vanos engine, why?

I know that the non vanos engine will not benefit from mods such as Cams and Pulleys because they don't work on a non vanos engine.

Does anyone know why is that? Does it mean that other than forced induction, a non vanos engine is basically stuck with bolt on parts such as the intake, chip exhaust and perhaps headers?

Also, can anyone please tell me the diff. between single/double pulleys?

I actually thought that one was able to still use the M3 cams on a NONVANOS engine, maybe I am wrong ??? But the NONVANOS motor from what I understand is built a little better than the VANOS Motors, better and stronget springs, valves, etc.

Hmmm.. yea

I understand that the non vanos motor is better in some ways because it has a cast iron block instead of an aluminum one that vanos motors have. However, I was told that M3 cams will not work on a non vanos engine.
Does anyone know why?
