Unless the knock is really bad you won't hear it because the ecu can make a correction very quickly. The dealer can flash it back to stock, but they may charge you to do it. I haven't dealt with any MAF issues on Bimmers since mine had an air flow meter. What is TDS. Have you tested the maf and harness with a multimeter?

OK I hear you. I will call the dealer tomorrow and see what he says. I meant to type TPS...throttle position switch. Yes, I did the checks with the multimeter. Voltages are there, but I do not know the values to reference them to. I think the problem is caused by the extra air flow of the supercharger. Thanks for your input.

Please guys, I know it's tempting because of how cheap they are, but please don't buy Ebay turbo kits. By spending a bit extra on excellent quality parts, you and your engine will be much happier in the long run. Beside the fact that better parts will produce better results, they will last longer and actually end up costing less. Just some advice guys.

Do you have a bently manual? It goes through testing the sensors pretty well. I think you can get it here Bentley manual download - M42club.com - Home of the BMW E30/E36 318i/iS. If not PM me. If it does turn out to be your TPS I have a good used one for sale.

HI Frank1975,
I had the Dinan Stage 1 upgrade removed from my ecu today by a BMW dealer. It cost me $104.00 + tax. The performance of the car has not change one iota. But I followed your advice and removed it. I have been trying to download the Bently manual, but the download never completes. About 8% dowloads, then the system hangs up. I am on high speed cable internet. I willkeep trying and will let you know if I have any progress with the code problem after I make the checks as per the Bently magazine.

I just tried downloading the bently manual again, and it seems to be downloading. It's up to 25% as I write this note. Hopefully it will continue to download the entire file this time.

Yeah I figured performance wouldn't change since the ecu will pull timming to about where it needs to be. So basically timing hasn't changed much if any, but safety has been improved. Let me know how the download goes if it keeps failing I may be able to upload it somewhere and send you the link.

Ok, it downloaded. The electrical diagrams are similar to those I found on another site...no reference voltages. If you have reference voltages for the TPS and the MAF sensor connectors, I will be happy to have them.
Thanks

Here is a problem that started recently. The car drives and idles perfectly; then without warning when I stop it idles rough as though one cylinder is not firing. If I continue to drive the next time I stop it idles fine again. Sometimes it happens at startup after driving for a while. Again, if I continue to drive, the next time I stop the idle is fine again. Is it possible that one of my injectors is malfuntioning intermittently?

Those sensors use 5v as well as most sensors. As far as the Idle issue my car had simillar problems that I never figured out. I swapped every sensor out except knock sensors and the problem was still there. I also did a smoke test and swapped injectors.

Today I checked the codes. They indicated that I had misfiring in the no 1 and no 4 cylinders. I am going to replace the spark plugs tomorrow and let you know how it turns out.

Problem solved!! Following the advice of a BMW parts dealer on the internet I replaced the Bosch 4417 spark plugs I was using with Bosch 7402 because he said that this is the plug that should be used with a supercharger or turbo charger. Well, that 7402 set only lasted less than 500 miles before they started to misfire. Luckily I still had the set of 4417. They are now reinstalled and the problem is gone. Great acceleration and smooth idle. I still have the P1140 code, but I have learnt to live with CEL on.

I spoke a little too quick. The rough idling returned. Turned out to be a defective new Mahle fuel filter. The problem started a day or two after replacing the filter that was on for over 14,000 miles. I could not believe that it was the new filter so I changed the wires, spark plugs and even flushed the fuel injectors, but the problem persisted. So I decided to change the fuel filter again, this time with a Purolator filter. Works like a charm. Back to smooth idle and excellent acceleration. No more Mahle fuel filters for me.
