| Have some FI questions and say hello to DTM Well first let me introduce myself. My name is Alex, and I found DTMpower.net from the two stickers that were on my car when I traded for it a couple weeks ago. So I am relatively new to BMW, and have a few question about forced induction. The basics I think I have a good hold on, but I always welcome refreshing of information. So this is bascially what I am thinking about.
The car is a 1992 325 is, I believe the engine is a m50 non-vanos. There has to be a way I can figure this out using a VIN number or engine code. Any help with this would be nice. - From what I have read, the non-vanos M50 is a good starting point for FI.
My first question is what turbo to put to the engine. The total power output is not my goal here. My goal is to run as reliable as possible. From what I have read I am looking at 6psi to 8psi safely with stock internals. Please correct me if I am wrong and let me know if I can run more or less pressure. I am worried about the turbo size and trim. I see that people have successfully used a Garrett TO4b, Garrett GT35R, Garrett/Mitsu 20g, Garrett t3 and Master Power NB012 t3/t70. So figuring I have a 2.5 liter engine what would a good turbo for quicker spooling and a more consistent power curve?
My second questions pertains to tuning. I remember with Hondas we used Chrome or uberdata to tune with, but I am pretty sure I can't do that with a BMW. What are options for tuning? Do I have to go with a stand alone engine management system like the AEM one or do I have other oprions?
My final question is related to the manifold. Is there an aftermarket manifold that the majority of people use and live by or are there many options and manufactures for Turbo manifolds?
Guys I appreciate any answers that I get. I did a look-see around and looked through a few threads trying to answer my questions, but most threads turned into flame-fests between DSM and DTM guys. I really don't want that here, I am just looking for some answers. Thanks guys
