Turbo Installs?

I'm a mechanic. Not a great one, I haven't been doing it for all that long, but I'm OK. I feel confident that I could most definitely install a turbo kit on my car. I've done some exhaust work, and removed and installed exhaust manifolds, I've taken bumpers off installed radiators , all that good stuff. The part of it that scares me is drilling a whole in your oil pan for the turbo oil return line. My thing is wouldn't you have to have the pan off to do this to make sure that no metal shards stay in the pan? I've taken oil pans off before but this one doesn't look like it will come down with out taking other things off. That's the one part of it that makes me uneasy. For guys that have done turbo installs before, what's the hardest part of the whole thing? Thank you for any response. Oh by the way I have a 95 325is.

The hardest part is taping the oil pan and welding....if you feel unsure, remove the oil pan and that is not too hard from the sounds of your skills....really not a bad job. Plus, you can take care of your oil pan nut.

So once you tap the pan, you have to weld the bung on, is that what you mean? I'm guessing there's a break in period as with most things. Thanks for the reply!

yes, tap the pan, weld on the bung for the oil drain line. Break in period? For what, the turbo?
