Always get good engine management, and a good tune..... A good tune, fuel delivery, and proper afrs are soooo vital to boost. Matching a turbo/intercooler as well as an efficent exhaust mani is also very important.

the motor didn't blow up the first time from tuning, it was because of the wrong gasket and when it burnt through the gasket it went through the ally block.

i had a t4 turbo on there and it made good power, but i want something a little more. and i also want to rev to about 8000rpm.

A good set of gaskets, bolts etc makes a huge difference lol, and unfortunely left you fucked. I would personally get some forged internals, a good HG, bolts, a GREAT tune, and lots of fuel. I would defintly have it dyno tuned..... The difference between running a good time, and going home in a flatbed is how well you setup your car. If you want an 8k rpm redline,m that shouldnt be a problem at all. They do damn near that stock, correct? Make sure your exhaust system, ignition, and fuel system are on par for what you want to do. I personally will be doing an M52 up myself, using a GT40R, and all of the stuff I mentioned. Good luck with your build.

Hello!

You don;t want to rev your 2.8 to 8000 RPM. A little more boost is better than a little more RPMs, especially on that engine.

300 rwkw ~ 400 rwhp so you're looking at a GT30R or larger.

With a small capacity engine I'd go for GT30R .. certainly no larger than GT35R .. keep your spool as nice as possible.

Yep, and if you are tuned well, in my opinion, there is no need to build your motor. A stout stock bottom end with a gasket should handle matters just fine.

OT, but Matt, can you check your PMs when you get a chance.

thanks, i think i will do that , what i find funny is that guy here is South Africa are running gt35 on there subaru's 2.0l talk about lag!

so what i am going to do is bore out the 2.8 to 3.0 and put a bigger gasket on it to drop the compression run a gt30r. looking to boost to 1-1.2 bar boost.
should the std internals hold , if i get a good tune? (p.s i have gone trough 2 scooby motors thanks to guys that don't know how to tune, so... i know how important it is)

thanks Ryan

The standard M52 internals, as well as the s50 internals, are easily capable of sustaining 1 bar and many have pushed the motors up to 1.2Bar without issue. The weak link in both motors are the rods, which though heavily debated, are said to be safe up to about 17psi (others have gone much higher to nearly 2 bar with the 2.8 rods, though I wouldnt call that a reliable boost level with a stock bottom end).

i heard that if you change the rod bolts on both those motors to ARP bolts, they should be fine. any idea if that true??

That may be true, but in any event, it never hurts to do the build right, and get forged con rods...... Along with ARPs..... I would rather push 20psi through good rods, instead of limiting to 17 on OE.
