Listen to this man. There is no reason to rebuild the motor unless you will be going for the amount of power needed for a rebuilt motor. Otherwise, have fun and save your money until it blows and then rebuild it.
This is a quick run-down of what is needed to be done for each degree of power.
-350whp 100% stock s50/s52 motor + Technique Tuning Turbo System Stage I (TTS1) on pump fuel.
-413whp only thicker headgasket (0.140)/ARP stud combo +Technique Tuning Turbo System Stage II (TTS2) on pump fuel.
-414whp-600whp only thicker headgasket (0.140)/ARP stud combo + any turbo system with the right components for this amount of power on c16 (117 octane) race fuel.
-601whp+ low CR forged pistons and forged rods. Any other work is not needed but is a bonus possibly bringing in more power with less psi. (ie. turbo cams, porting/polishing, full race valvetrain, etc.)
