OBD1 vs. OBD2

Im new here on DTM Power, but I have considered buying a M3 for a while. When I buy my M3 I want to turbo charge it for some serious power. I will be doing mostly road/club racing. This car's focus will not be drag racing. I would like to know everyone's opinion on which is better for turbo charging, OBD1 or OBD2. Also, could anyone give me advice on how I could piece together my own turbo setup (hope to save a little $$$), because Active Autowerks' kit is a little pricey. I would appreciate hearing ya'lls comments on this subject. Thanks!

OBD1 hands down, period.

Technique tuning has what you want. www.techniquetuning.com the same kit can also be ordered and / or installed by George and co. at ICS Performance, if you're looking for experience, skill and quality work at a good price, those are the people to talk to, period.

In the future though, a fellow member on the board here took the time to do an extremely informative write-up titled "Tried and tested" forced induction for BMWs. It's nothing against you, just that half the posts here are usually the same question, and therefore get ignored.

PM me if you're serious about something custom, I can / possibly get you some decent prices on the hardware you'd need.

Thanks man! I am just now learning the inns and outs of tuning BMWs. A few of my friends have Bimmers and here soon I am going to follow I should be getting my M3 sometime before Christmas or next spring. I will definitely PM you on a setup for my car. Thanks for the help!

OB1 makes best use of power-adders, like CAI, going catless, things like that.

i have the greddy emanage ultimate up w/ full control over fuel and timing on my turbo 1998 323is (2.5l m52 obdII). Just another tuning option if you wanted to go obdII and do a DIY kit.

My setup includes a gt30r, spa manifold, spa wastegate, spa oil distribution block w/ oil feed line, greddy bov, ebay 4in fmic, custom ic piping, silicon couplers, t-bolt clamps, greddy type s boost controller, aem wideband, emanage ultimate w/ map sensor, boost guauge,.. think thats about it. I'm in the process of tuning right now.

However if you go obdI there is so much more availiable as for as tuning and you don't have to worry about emissions
