Ok, first of all, I do have pretty decent knowledge of turbo systems and such, though I have never installed one or set one up (engine management or otherwise). I have a '97 528i that I'm doing research on in order to turbocharge. I've got tons of freakin' questions that never seem to stop coming, so anybody with input is appreciated.
As of now, all I have in preparation is a turbo manifold for an e36, which fits the m52. The problem with that is the sensors on the e39 are on the manifold, and on the e36, they are not. What needs to be done to get around this?
I am planning on using a GReddy E-Manage. It has 16 x 16 fuel and ignition maps, which should be plenty good enough. I know I will have to upgrade injectors and ignition, so that's all good. Any advice on self-tuning with this type of setup?
The other thing is the stock intake. What is connected to the throttle body is a worthless piece of crap that is between that and the cold-air I currently have installed. Anybody who has looked under the hood knows what I'm talking about. It has this flex-tube crap attached to a plastic piece that holds the sensor and a silencer. Any kind of boost in my opinion would not be held by this junk, not to mention simply making the silencer pop out. What can take the place of this? I would go straight to the throttle body, but what about the sensor?
Ok. One last thing.... Vacuum lines. Oil lines I have figured out, but I can't seem to find anything on vacuum lines. What goes to where as far as BOVs, wastegates, and boost controllers?
Thanks
