16g my M3?

ive been looking into turbocharging my car for a while. The only problem is the 7k + price tags on the kits out as of now. So i decided I could just buy my own setup. Does anyone have any experiance with t3 or 16g mitsu turbos? Theres a shop nearby that can fab me a turbo manifold with mitsu flange, and make my intercooler core/ piping so forth. Just wanted to know if its been done, and how well it worked and how much it cost. Id also like to know if E36 obd1 M3's have forged pistons and rods, and how much psi would be safe with said setup.
Thanks
-Hayes

16g on a dsm or Wrx is money, but with an M3 just save more and get a 18g or 20g (if your set on a mitsu). Most people i know with my car who have 16g's, within months of having it they wish they had gone bigger ( and thats on a 4 banger). so you having an M3 my personal opinion would be to go bigger. don't half ass it. if you wanna turbo your whip, save up, wait a few months and make it a devstating street monster

but at the same time this all depends on your goals for the car. (power wise)...anyhow good look bro.

well I would go big, but you have to pay to play big like that. And running a turbo much larger than a 16g would require me to get lower compression pistons(dont have money for an engine build). Im wanting a small turbo at first, this will suffice until I get out of college, then il go big. and I kno a t28 (tiny) puts roughly 375 on the crank. those are satisfactory results coming from a stock 240hp. But the 16g, or any T3 turbo is larger than a T28 so thats what is feasable for me at this time. I just figured somone had done it to their M3, wanted to kno how it held up, what kind of numbers it made etc. so not looking for big pawr just yet.

with that small of a turbo there is no way you will get 375 out of that thing. what i would do and have done already...get a holset turbo. they are out of the cumings turbo diesels and make big numbers on a budget and are t3/t4 style. i bough mine fully rebuilt and shipped on ebay for 250!

Mitsu turbos are great since they are cheap and plentiful. Make sure you get a rebuilt one, or you will be swapping it out in a month or two. ( ask me how I know ) Keep the exhaust housing in mind, the T28 becomes a restriction @6500rpm, and thats on a 2.0 4 cyl. Imagine on a 3.2? If you can fit 2 T28's that would be perfect. Also, the 16G is a little small I think for the 3.2. I would consider the super20G (ball bearing). T3/t4 combos are pretty popular for 6cyl engines... they even slap them on 4 cyls, even though the have a huge lag.
Then again you can always have a T28 or a 16G clipped...

i figured 16g would be a bit small, can i get a super20g for around $300?? and if i do go t3/t4 can it run safely on my stock motor/compression? btw its 3.0L. Links to these turbos would help as well, thanks.

ps. DTM325PWR what holset turbo did you get (dimensions etc.)?

no, those turbos are around 600-1100 in good shape or new. I wish I could fit a set of twin turbos on my 328... there would be almost no lag with 2 mitsu t25 or t28 turbos, and they are cheap when you blow them up. At least when you buy them used... But almost no lag coming out of the corners. Its not good for a high hp number, but you dont have to wait till 3500 rpm for boost, and then worry about controlling the violent burst of power exiting a corner.

Contrary to popular belief, the larger the exhaust A/R, the more power you can make safely on pump gas. Big turbos actually are worth it. Twin TD05 frame turbos allow you to run much more boost on pump than twin TD04 turbos on my car. The restrictive exhaust housings kill the efficiency. Big turbos also create less heat in the intake system.

so going bigger does not necisarrily mean more danger of blowing your motor (while keeping tuning realistic)?
so would this run safely on my stock internals?
