E30 M3 Turbo

Does anyone know if I can legally drive, on the street, an E30 M3 with a turbo S14 motor, as in it will pass visual inspection and the rest of the smog test? If so how and has anyone done it?

you can turbo it, but I doubt you will pass emissions in CA. They're pretty damn strict! Good luck, I hope you turbo an S14. That'd be sick! Keep us updated if you do, bro.

S14 as in Nissan? Mating any engine to any transmission is possible but why don't you stick with a BMW engine and turbo-charge that?

Ummm hehe you are joking Right!

An s14 is a 4 Cylinder m3 motor which was in cars from 1988-1992 if I recall correct

it puts out 194 HP and with software safely Revs to 7400 rpm, this little engine KICKS some power for a NA 4 cylinder!
i have one in my 1976 2002 :-p

I have a system that I have mapped out that will work on S14 and M20 motors and is pretty inexpensive, the problem is that I want a street/ track car and I don't think that I can do it. With a 2.0 liter block and the same basic cylinder they used to make 1600 horsepower in their early 80's Formula 1 motors, for qualifying of course and using rocket fuel, but still I imagine the motor is good for 400 plus reliable depending on intercooler, internals and amount of boost. One last thing, isn't an S14 a Silvia and aren't they illegal over here anyway? So why would I be putting an illegal Nissan engine in any BMW? Isn't the Silvia S15 the one that everyone wants anyway? Somebody already posted what an S14 is and I will reiterate that it is the standard engine for a 1988-1992 BMW M3 for the United States market. Thanks for your help and I do agree that a turbo S14 would be sick, but unfortuanately unless I move or get dealer plates I not going to do it.

Unfortunately no, I wasn't joking. 1. I don't know BMW engine codes, and 2. I'm also into import sport compact cars. I feel so stupid. Enjoy my photo gallery.

HaHa Funny!! My bro's S14 rev's to a 7800 and has beaten newer M52's and S50's. The S14 is no joke and a turbo'd S14 would be very fun and very fast.

as per silvia's - its the engine, sr20, that seems to be popular. which was released in various cars gtir, s13, s14, s15 (and probably more)

A Silvia? Illegal? :O ..why?
