How much $ would it cost to piece together a Turbo Kit...

I'm not really sure what I need. But I really want a turbo kit, I just don't want to pay the high price for a turbo kit. I'd rather piece one together. I'm not sure if this is bad or not. I'm not sure how much it would cost, I know the tuning would be expensive, but what am I looking at for tuning? What exact parts would I need to bolt on my 95 3.0L M3. I'm not looking for extremem numbers just something that would bump me over 300+ WHP. My current mods are:

-AA 3.5" CAIS
-Euro HFM
-21# injectors
-AA Chip
-Remus Exhaust
-Straight Pipes (no cats)

Can any of the FI guys enlighten me on my questions.

Thanks,
Tony

well if your not doing anything internal, i'd say you could get it done for about 900... thats 400 for the turbo, 200 for the intercooler, 50 for the BOV, 50 for the wastegate, and 200 for the plumbing. You might want to get 30# injectors... i don't think 21 can make 300 horse, i'd say 225 / 250 max

You can't do it for that cheap, unless someone gives you a bunch of parts. by the way, where's the exhaust manifold for the turbo to sit on? how's the turbo going to get oil? and what about all of the fitting and couplers that are needed? And if you spend that little on those parts, then you won't have a turbo kit for long. If you are going to do it and do it right expect to spend around 3,0000-$4,000 if you piece together a reliable kit. with good hp, and then you will need an upgraded clutch and some other non turbo items to handle the hp.

I personally have been piecing together my own kit with used parts and parts from more common cars. So far I have a used a intake manifold, a STI turbo, and a evo 8 intercooler. You could try a strategy like mine to save some money. I wouldnt skimp and get a used turbo unless you know the history behind it. A friend of mine got his turbo I believe it is a T88 from a semi. His car now makes huge numbers.

hmmmm

I believe dado is running a mitsubishi turbo in his bmw. It was on one of the vids.

You could get it that cheap but I would be careful. or you could buy a turbo that is internally gated really cheap and not worry about having to buy a wastegate

or you could get a mitsubishi T3 for like 300$ and the interal wastegate is like 60$ with it, and really you dont NEED a BOV...or an intercooler for that matter, but an intercooler is something you will want, and if you find one out of a volvo or something you can pick it up real cheap. and if you really want to save money, just wait until someone blows there turbo and try to pick up some of the plumbing from them...and you can get some of the parts from the junk yard...if you need an oil cooler i know a friend that can hook you up with one for cheap. and remeber there is always ebay for some shit...you prob. dont want to get a turbo there unless you know it is brand new....oh and only go for a turbo out of a semi if you dont mind waiting till like 5,000RPM for the turbo to spool, or get a small one and makeit a two stage twin turbo.

its true

it is true that the turbo takes a little longer to spool but there isnt that annoying problem of valve float. My friend with the semi turbo just got his first time slip since the turbo and he runs 11.56 he does have lots of other mods done as well though.

This is one of those cases where "I dont even know enough to know what I dont know". Sort of like taking out your tonsils using a DIY link.

A fellow on another forum decided to do the same thing. Currently he has spent almost the same amount as he could of on a complete TT kit ($6800) and it's not finished yet.

He knows what he's doing though. If you aren't familiar with it then I wouldn't piece one together.
