| My sisters car... Hi! My sister is driving a 320i E30 with 129 Hps on stock. Thinking about some methods for faster acceleration we decide to make the suction tract a bit longer and build in an 57i kit. After that we change the plugs and their voltage, the engine runs more "rounder". The result was a bit more power(150-160 now) and an unbelievable sound. Hope that I could help you man... ![]()

| Confirmed Youre right. The 92's are more appreciateive of engine/exhaust mods than other years due to the lack of the Vanos unit. I have a 92 so i know the dramatic differences these mods can make first hand. The cams on this model more closely resemble a M cam with more aggressive specs than the 93+ . You can also over-revv without grinding your teeth as it can take it on the 5-speed models. 93+ is a trip to the engine rebuilder. Last note... the 92 2.5L was the last year of the M50 all cast iron block which is the basis for the M3 engine ![]()

| Plus the 92 has a better head. Stronger (thicker) valves and stuff.

| so is there a difference in HP? how did the dyno charts change? and what was the point of adding vanos/duel vanos? I get the concept on Honda's, to save gas. However the non-vtec hondas are better down low (more torque) but the vtec equiped ones have a higher redline(more HP).

There seeems to be alot of contradictory statements on this thread . I've seen on the chip companies websites that that VANOS motor gets more of a hp gain from an engine chip, but i don't know about exhaust/intake and stuff like that....Anybody know?? |

| Logically would BMW have added VANOS if it somehow made the engine slower or made less performance, think about it, I mean i highyl dont think they added it for gas mileage (i could be wrong ) But I would imagine a motor with VANOS is going to be stronger. Why do you think its all hyped up that in Europe they have Dual VANOS instead of single VANOS like in the US. Think about it. Im not saying they dont respond better to mods, just saying that a motor with VANOS is probably more ideal.Just my common sense speaking for me Chris

| + Vanos is smoother and makes even power through the entire band (ahem... more low end torque than 92). Non Vanos has more power in the upper band. Not sure of better mileage but i would assume so since it revvs smoother.
