| Mechtech Level 2 Turbocharger Kit-This is what you get. There seems to be a lot of mis-information and I am getting emails about what you do/don't get with the Mechtech Level 2 Turbo kit. Here is the deal. 1) VATN Turbocharger-Capable of 15+psi-Internally lubricated with it's own sump, and no engine oil feeds, ceramic ball bearings. No need for a turbo timer. The turbocharger contains a wick system that feeds it oil, which needs to be refilled after a great many miles...like 40,000 miles. Not capable, as of yet, of supporting an electronic boost controller due to the fact that the turbocharger has no wastegate, and the results with an electronic unit haven't been that good. I am installing one anyway. Boost is controlled by bleeding off air to the actuator. 2) Mechtech uses Active Autoworks to remap the DME's timing and fuel curve. This isn't working so great, so they are continuing to add a HKS SuperAFR to further fine tune the Air/Fuel. For me it is perfect, cause I can dial in my own A/F Ratio when I want to. 3) 35lb Fuel Inhjectors 4) High Flow Fuel Pump 5) Boost Gauge on A Pillar 6) Spearco Intercooler-In my opinion, way too small. If I knew then what I know now I would have insisted on a bigger one. 7) Custom piping. Needs to be larger, and also chromed and polished. 8) New exhaust manifold-Needs to be higher quality and polished. What the kit needs and doesn't come with. 1)Aluminum intake elbow like AA's. If you want this for the Mechtech Kit, you have to pay extra for it. It SHOULD be part of the kit. 2) Electronic Boost Controller-To me it's important. Thanks guys. PM me if you need any more info. After it goes on the dyno Wednesday I'll post the results. Last edited by Brad D. : 01-15-2002 at 08:53 AM. |

| What is the cost of the Mechtech kit? Their website doesn't have much info on it? How bad was the install or how much did they charge? Finally are you satisfied with the kit? I want to go forced induction in the next 2 months and haven't decided on what to do yet. The Mechtech just sounds easier to install. Thanks |

| read again: Not capable, as of yet, of supporting an electronic boost controller due to the fact that the turbocharger has no wastegate not the typical turbo setup where an EBC does a lot of good. |

1) $8000.00 out the door including Dyno tuning. 2) The install was $1000.00 of the $8000.00 3) I'll let you know how satisfied I am with the kit after we get it tuned. The car is on the dyno as we speak getting the SuperAFR installed. 4) The Mechtech kit is easier to install. It was my understanding that AA doesn't see their system as a kit. Is this right? I thought they had to install it. |

The kit works fine without an electronic boost controller. I made a manual controller, which if you wanted to, could be placed in the cockpit of the car. I am going to put in a Greddy Profec B anyhow. I'll let you know of he results. Last edited by Brad D. : 01-17-2002 at 05:08 AM. |

| im well aware that you can control boost with the mech tech but the fact that it isnt electronic kills it for me thats all. And active auto is a kit, they will ship it out to you, even the obd2 turbo kit. |

Cool...well the fact that I can't pass smog without jumping through hoops kills the AA kit for me. Good luck with whatever kit you get. |
