Question turbo or supercharger??

Sorry I know this probably has been answered many times before. Anyways I am probably planning to turbo or super charge my 93 325is in the near future for a street car. I was wondering should I get a turbo kit or super charger? AND why? Also I been looking on websites such as turbo depot and the tsi kit on turbokits.com? Is the turbokit on turbokits worth the price? 3g's for a turbo kit isn't a bad price. I know AA turbo are the best kits out there but they cost more then what my car is worth haha. Also if I look into supercharger what websites or company names should I be looking at and whay? Also I know that turbo's are know for lags and superchargers uses belts that can break?? OR is there a way to make a fast N/A 325is? and how would a fast n/a be done?? Sorry for asking so many questions. Thanks to anyone that helps.

You could have easily searched all those questions individualy.

Heres a couple answer's though.

The 325 engine isn't a good platform to use for Forced Induction <-- research why.

AA isn't necessarily the best turbo kit.

N/A power couldn't be any more than about 230-240 to the wheels if you build the engine. But engine swap is a differen't story; 250-280whp, if again you build up an engine. Still going to cost you premo money.

Also, the other "turbo or supercharger??" thread answers some of these questions.

And one more thing. Research. Research. Research. Researching will answer all of your questions.

supercharger is no where as good as a turbo, supercharger runs out of revs where as turbo dosent. if your turbo is matched correctly you will have just as much lag as a supercharger and if you twin turbo you can have a small one for down low and a bigger one for higher up.
superchargers are a waste of time unless on american/australian low reving V8s which are f*cken gay low technology pushrod engines anyway. If ur gonna charge, turbo is the way to go.

I wouldn't say supercharging is a waste of time on our cars. Our engines take supercharging quit well. Plus the dinan and ESS kits can be uprgraded to higher boosts, and eventualy get you 350-400whp. Its partialy preference.

I say before you decide on one or the other, don't listen to some of these "turbo or supercharger" threads, becuase you'll end up with a headache, and just simply drive one of each. A high horsepower superchargered inline 6 vs a high horsepower turboed inline 6 feel very differen't.

These kinds of threads will just give you headaches, trust me. Just research everything you can about engines first before you do anything, becuase thats the heart of everything. Your in a 11+ year old car... that engine has probably taken quit a beating and won't be able to handle much.

I do not think you have ANY IDEA what you are talking about.
A supercharger runs out of revs? A supercharger makes power based on revs. The higher the revs the higher the boost. RPM dictates boost.
IT is obvious you have ZERO knowledge on this subject.

Actually every word you wrote was inaccurate.

I went turbo just because it's awesome feeling so much torque at such a low rpm. The uniqueness factor is another plus because not many people in California have it compared to superchargers.

I know smog will be an issue, but I don't have to worry about that until 2006.

go with turbo
here's the one you want, lots of torque, but you might have to relocate the battery and a few other minor things:

Turbo vs Supercarger. Thats a lot to get into. You could write a book on that subject, but to start there are some pretty good threads on bimmerforums.com. It depends on the engine and what the car is being used for. Also there are several differant types of superchargers.

Supercharger is belt driven.

Turbo is exhaust gas driven.

SC starts spinning immediately when you start your engine. The higher Revs, the quicker it spins.

Turbo needs gas to turn the propeller, not enough gas and you aint gonna spin it. Thats why theres a boost threshold. Only once you start pushing enough gas through the exhaust turbo does it start spinning the intake one.

Common knowledge that a mismatched turbo will "run out of puff" at really high revs. I dont see how a S/C could seeing as its solidly connected.
