how did you blow your motor

i have a 325i e36 and at the monmet i'm running 7psi on stock internals and stock head gasket. i want to know how you guys know your motors where about to blow or how did you blow them.

what are the signs of a blowen headgasket

Recently blew mine @ 261rwhp on the stock factory gasket from the M44 1.9L while dynoing the car. Looking to uprate the gasket now.

what happened to the motor dose it have alot of damage. did it start smoking or just spiting coolent out from the head gasket

The edge of the gasket blew right out and ripped apart at cylinder 4. 3 of the spark plugs got water on them, 2 of them shattered from thermal shock. Only got one minor scratch mark on one of the bores from the broken porcelin from the spark plug. Nothing serious. Compression tests came up all fine.

There wasn't much of a warning, it all happened too quickly when we were doing fuel corrections @ 7200 rpms.

what are you going to do. think headgasket or fully built motor.
I want to do a think headgasket on my motor. but where do i get it from????
also if you put a think gasket like the one aa has what happens to the timing belt dosen't it have to be longer or dose it come with different gides. or has anyone replace the stock pistons with low compersion piston but still use stock crank and rods to save money.

We've just put another factory HG in to get the car going again and dropped the rpm rev limit down to 6800. Went on the track a few days after and all is fine. We're looking for a stronger HG in the mean time.

As for pistons, we have lowered the stock compression. There was no need to change the crank at all, as we weren't stroking the engine.

My rear main oil seal decided to take a hike and use my oil as road decoration. Needless to say no oil makes for one very unhappy main bearing on the crank shaft. Ba Blam!

We're still using the same motor. We had a track day the next week, so we just quickly put it back together with another factory head gasket, lowered the max rpm and lowered the boost a little. Did a compression test and all is good.

We're currently searching for a stronger head gaset.

BMP Design Makes some headgaskets. Never used them, but they have the stuff you woudl need without going to copper. Kevlar with cutting rings.BMP Design

Thanks for that. We were originally going to try and get something from them, but apparently they have a supply issue or just aren't keen on supplying them anymore.

We've found another solution, just waiting for them to deliver.
