| more power? heyas guys, im in perth australia and i drive a 04 318i sport.. apparently its a model they sell here with the m3 bumper, sport seats, steering, door sill badge, deep dish rims and etc.. like the sports pack.. just got it 2 wks ago.. went to a local bmw tuning specialist...seeking more power..not unrealistic gains but considerable.. he suggested cold air induction..routed from the foglight and full exhaust system as the 318i 2.0 engine comes down as a twin pipe but flanges into a single straight thru the cat to the muffler to maintain emmisions and back pressure..is dis right? ![]() so he suggested doin a twin pipe striaght from the engine... all in all, he said any kind of forced induction might give me problems... the ecu now its a multiplex system(apparently?) which controls both the engine and the gearbox..which gives a problem then because when the engine makes more power, the gear changes will be very erratic...all over e place...and furthermore, he said they dont make much superchargers for 318i's much...even the new 2litre version and if there was ecu's, it would be in left hand drive which will give me alot of problems.. anyone can help me out in my quest for more power? thanks in advance guyss... apprreeciate it! ![]() |

| Try downing atlanta superchargers (www.downingatlanta.com) They develope superchargers for 4 cylinder Bee-em's producing upwards of 200 flywheel horsepower. With tuning and other mods you could go even higher. I've heard good things about the kit. also, check out autothority chips (www.autothority.com) and sydney's Bavaria cars (www.bavariacars.com.au).

| The downing site didn't work on my computer and last I checked, yes you're right, they only did s/c's for the pre-facelifted cars, but I'm assuming that they'll pride themselves on being able to develope a kit for you, as they are the 4 cylinder bmw s/c specialists. The downside is that your car is unavailable in North America, but it's still worth a shot.

| in the event that they custom a sc kit for me, how much more expensive is it in comparison to the off the shelf ones for the M44 1.9l?

| I really don't know, but maybe $1000-$2000 more with a different blower, custom tuning, custom tubing, and labor. This really is a very rough estimate.

| Talk to Erik at Bavariacars in Sydney for options, but turbocharging is recommended. It's not true that you can't go FI with your car.

| the car is brand new with about 5000k's.. should i really be considering this? The guy can do me a custom Eaton supercharger running low boost and using my standard management. problem is, he said the 4cyl e46's diff's and transmission are weaker than the 6cyl ones..he said it shdnt be a problem but would i be looking at any problem realiability wise here and in the engine? thanks
