| m3 turbo or supercharger setup hi guys as many of you may know, cars have been my dad's, brothers and will me just recently, our bread and butter. now, we have been buying and selling, repairing and even running a test centre for cars for a number of years now. my dad buys smash ups and repairs them, were as with my brothers, they are more involved with auction sales and more so bmws. this is the reason why they have owned a number of them and well, they have always wanted to own a fast cars and well, they purchased their first m3 in 1996. they car was only worked on in 2000 after they had the car chipped, head gasflowed and fitted with larger valves, suspension upgraded and some gas added.now, back then they managed a best of 12, 9 sec over the 1/4 mile and that was a pretty impressive time but my brothers had opted for more. in late 2001, it just so happened that the car burnt mysteriously. my brothers, then had just seen the yellow m3 and well it was at the rgmotorsport workshop being completed. back then, the car had 83000km and we paid for the conversion and took the vehicle as is, as if we were the first to own it asa supercharged car, cos the dude who previously owned it couldnt manage paying for it. the problem that we initially had though was that the car was built to be faster and be fully street legal and only be used to race when we actually needed to. the car was fitted with an Vortech V2 SC-trim supercharger and we broke the cog belt broke on two occasions withing the warranty period. we then paid in the difference and had rgm change the supercharger to a more powerful t-trim model which did not require the intercooler and could handle much higher boost. now if any of you remember, this vehicle ran in late 2002 in jhb and ran a splendid 12,5 @ 217km/h.we then ran it on a few other occasions in jhb and well in earley 2003 it ran at a few odi's and well, we then had the manifold from the 8 point injector system to a 12 point as my brother felt it would be better.we had the idea too from the SMOOTH-ZN m3 manifold. now, we the manifold built in the U.K and sent over to us.the manifold was in a complete 70mm piece and completed in a full tnt system running 63mm. the car then was set to run at margate 2003 and was there, but never actually ran... well it did and well i dont want to mention who beat us, but those of you who were there would have seen that we stopped after just 200m cos the car was swaying to the left, that was cos the pulley had broken of the crank. now, thsi was particularly our fault because originally, it had broken and we repaired it. so as to avoid being made idiots, we put out and left it at that last march. we were like kinda beaten by a 12 sec ople kadett 200 TS. the car then ran again in july, and was boosted to 1.2 bars, which was the highest we had taken it, but we blew the manifold.now this was strange, cos the guys who built it guaranteed much much higher boost.we then changed ti back to original pieace fit by rgm and the original 57mm dual bore exhaust system. but, my brothers consider this car as a failure, not that it has ever let us down, but that is hasnt performed to their expectations.the car has ran a 12 sec flat and thats it.apart from the crank and had we not changed the manifold, we would never have ran into problems. well, R200000( 18000 pounds) worth of conversions on the car and desigan(my brother) isnt too happy about it. the car has done 24000km since the conversion and when you consider that you have a street legal car which can run in the mid 12 sec, then you know that it was worth the money, but not if you looked at the power side. the internals on the motor are about the same as rg's m3 setup with the motor stroked to 3.2L.the car made in the region of 420hp without gas which was pretty good when boosted at 1.2 bars. now guys, we do have a buyer for the car and we are considering building an m3 turbo which will be fully street legal.we have already bought a complete m3 shell, and well, wehn you conside tthat my bruothers only deal with bmw spares, the motor wasnt too hard to come along. the question now is , whats the best turbo to boost onto a custom manifold and get the car to run in the 11's without gas and still be able to be used as a street car when used at low boost. one of my friends in the U.K is currently making 800hp and boosting at 32 psi and he has no problems. he is now considering boosting higher and trying to get 1000hp. guys, we want to start this project asap and need all the info we can get.i have already consulted with goerge smooth(the guy with the 800hp m3 from south africa) and he has given us some tips but i need much more than that. the conversion will be done by chiplogic, just as soon as we get all the info we need. btw rgm stand for rgmotorsport and i am from south africa.
