| That AA kit looks very promising. Where is the closest place to Ohio that would install it, or would I have to take the M to the AA shop? Do they have stages to that kit, is there more attainable hp?

| Problem with AA, right now, you are kind of stuck with the performance of the Rotrex. I believe you could upgrade things "MAYBE" in the future; but, it's not that promising as of yet. Since Dinan uses a vortech I believe, you can always change the amount of boost by going with different pulley sizes. IMO, you really DO NEED an oil cooler if you are wandering down the supercharger route. If you do Dinan, you must use a Dinan authorized facility to get the warranty. If you do not care about the warranty, then screw the Dinan ... Purchase an RMS supercharger kit (use AA's software though) or get AA's kit. I believe ESS and ERT have kits as well; but, for me, I would be choosing either RMS or AA. I personally would go with RMS supercharger kit (get the hardware from them) and the software from AA. This way, you have flexibility to increase boost if you desire. If you will be happy with around 300 rwhp -- PERIOD ... then AA is the route I would go. |

| James, You are the only person that doesn't seem to be happy with the SC scene and esp the AA one, wonder why ? Yes AA makes 300 RWHP and i personally think anything over that be asking for trouble.I have heard people putting bigger pullies and getting more HP but that doesn't/never last long,so i personally think 300 RWHP is plenty atleast at this time.O btw do you have any negative thoughts about supercharging an M and if yes can you explain why ? Later, Yasir

| Yasir- I have nothing against superchargers. I like superchargers just as much as the next guy. As far as 300 rwhp .. I don't know, I think you would be right at 300 rwhp with the AA kit, which is plenty of power for most people. However, I am speaking from a different perspective I think. After being in f/i for at least 1.5 years now with BMW ... you always get the urge to upgrade ... I mean, it will come harder and sooner than you think. For myself, avoiding that urge was hard. Thus, I dropped a crapload of money into other things to keep myself occupied. You always will want to tinker with the car .. you hear about some guy that got 320 rwhp with his AA supercharger .. and then you start thinking, hmm...if he did that, why can't I?? Then someone will get 340 rwhp out of it ... then you are like, heck, 20 more hp and I'll stop .. it's continuous ... especially with the supercharger guys it seems ... I do not think you will have any problems with supercharging a BMW. So long as you have good software. I think that is the primary culprit for premature failure on any force inducted vehicle. Then, you get into what can I do to prevent the onset of heat soak ... a) oil cooler b) intercooler (except for AA, haven't heard of anyone successfully doing it); c) water injection d) heat wrap, etc...etc... Water injection will probably help a lot as will an oil cooler. As long as you keep around 11 psi (which seems to be the max you should really go without changing the static cr of the engine) ... and add water injection and some other means, you should be able to get around 360-370 rwhp ... Besides ... you can never have to much power ... I would pm some users that I know: a) JLee (on bf.c) -- he'll give a different perspective on supercharging than most people ... b) Kapolani -- c) Paul E ... d) Sean (S54 mroadster) .... That should give you an idea of problems that "could" occur, even with AA's unit ... speak to Jeff about that ... Kapolani had no problems at all ... speak to Paul E about using Dinan's unit and modifying it ... and speak to sean about RMS ... that should help you in your decision ... Good luck, James |

| to tell you the truth there are alot of rummors about this twin screw s/c coming out. the specs on it are insain!!!! the best set up for sure. dont know when they will start to become more widely available. i might just wait and see when that comes out. also buying used supercharger is not a bad idea if you wana save money. u can get a used turbo kit for 5-6 k but buying used turbos is another story. i bought my used kit with 5k miles on it for 4 grand and its like bran new no problems accept $600 in missing parts. |

| I would definently get the twin screw once it hits production!
