Justifying FI

Ok, Say you have (just) enough money for an FI kit of somekind. Still, how do you justify it? I mean, thats a lot of money to spend for that extra power. Obviously you have to look at the power to dollar ratio and find what you think is the best deal and in most cases FI has a better ratio than any other performance mod. But still 6,000 to 10,500. That's a lot of money to be spending on a car part. How do you do it?

1) don't think about it in terms of money ... you either want to, or you don't.

2) if you have just enough money, don't do it. Whatever you think it will cost you, add 50% to that total.

Well I want to. The things is I've already spent thousands on Dinan mods and a few other poor investments like sport springs which I later changed out for race springs and now I want coilovers and so on and so on. Plus I have that money and some extra, but I think I would need 100,000 to really not worry about spending (say) 10,000 on an turbo or sc.
See I wouldn't really worry about buying an AA, RMS or ESS supercharger, because the price is substantially lower than an AA turbo or my (personal favorite) Eurosports new PD blower, but then I'm sacrificing the extra power. Which, by the way, is power that I think I deserve after putting so much money into it.

Hey Henry,
If you want, i got some stuff FS. I have everything except manifold and boost controler. I even have 3.0 turbo chip from AA.
this kit has the 16g, but i can get you the 20g turbo for not much more, tho ive seen several other 3.0s make 300whp on this exact kit.
Fs: Aa Turbo Kit!
We could get your car running w/ the 20g for $5000, or not much more than that.
Just thought i'd let u know and offer it.
If you're intrested, let me know.

:edit: just saw ur car was 99, so obviously 3.0 chip wouldn't work, my bad i thought it was a 95.

one thought... have you driven a turbo M3 yet? I was kinda in the same boat as you, so I drove one. Afterwards I decided that I did indeed want the power but thought the price was too steep for me, so I bought an M3 with the turbo already on it. I saved a lot of money but I had to look long and hard to find a car that hadn't been abused.

I'm saying drive a turbo M3 to see if it's what you REALLY want to blow your wad on.

I could see about upgrading the IC as well if you want. With the stg2 IC and 20g turbo, your car would be running really strong, and the IC will help keep the heat soak down dramatically more.
But let me know if you want to persue this.

If you are asking this question then turbocharging your M is not for you.

i'm sorry Mrblonde, i couldn't disagree more. I see this kind of response from lots of current FI owners.... As if everyone who has gone that route didn't debate it at ALL before they did so.... I have plenty of money to go FI, yet I've waited and debated for a long time if it's something i want to do, or not. Would my money be better spent investing in an 03 or 04 M3, instead of into a 98 M3, etc... There is nothing wrong with being practical and thinking things through.

I too would suggest driving one though, turbo and/or SC.... That should go a long way towards your decision.

Thanks to M3Ryder for getting my back. I find MrBlonde's statement rather insulting and a little ignorant. I would really like you to explain your comment a little further. Why does me asking that question mean that I'm not cut out for FI? Does it mean that I don't have the money? That I'm stupid? What? What insight do you have into the subject that makes you so able to make my decision for me?
