Looking for more power, reliability and improved track performance.

For thetrack I would go for sc.

If you can install a smaller turbocharger, u ll have less lag. Add to that a sophisticated stand alone such as Motec and u ll see a wonderful track set up made of a turbocharger system. Otherwise a sc system gives u instant response at the track.

Get a turbo. VADER M3 from European Car has a good track record on his turbo setup. He's also one the time trials on the 2002 Euroturner event and the Hotchkiss Media Challange.

If you want some proof.. email me with your address and I will send you a CD of in car videos of him at certain CA tracks.

The best video is him toying with a Porsche 996 TT.

Whats your budget anyways?

Another reason I wanted to go with a SC. I'm not looking to beat you dado, can't afford to. However, i do want to own E46 M3's and make quick work of 350z's. i was looking at either the AA Sc or the ESS SC. I believe the AA comes with an intercooler?

correct AA comes with intercooler. I believe ESS is also coming out with an intercooler kit.

Off topic here... Dado? ...of Mischief fame? I never would have put two and two together until I see your car in your sig pic.

Ok so I must be behind... sorry, I just saw mischief last weekend though I've been a DTM'er for awhile now. Wow. Ok cool!

personally.. and this is my opinion ONLY, i dontknow specifics, but i believe that AA needs to intercool their s/c kit because the supercharger is less efficiant than a vortech. they make just BARELY more power than a comparable NON intercooled vortech kit (ESS).

with the proper tuning.. and i mean something that a bmw engine management, no matter how tweaked, can handle, you can drive turbo cars on the track with lots of lag, if you can control boost creep, and set part throttle boost maps

problem wiht cars with lag, big turbos, is the part throttle boost. youll be on a corner, heel toe to high rpm (to exit the turn) and try to maintain your speed, BUT at higher rpm, and with minimal throttle input, the turbo WILL spool, to high levels in worst cases, causes the car to oversteer, or abrupt lift in the throttle to control it, neither is good to maintain a corner. it makes things difficult, thus not making it a popular choice for modifications in roadrace

im going to try to retrofit AEM race EMS to a bmw harness and see how it will all work together, with a big big turbo too.. of course it will take me probally a couple years to complete

the part throttle is the main thing I am having problems right now. It's hard to mantain half throttle without kicking in and out of boost.

yes freshstart that's me, you are a little behind.

Dado,

What kind of boost controller do you have? If you have the Greddy Profec B maybe you can have the boost balance set to mild.

Pablo doesnt seem to have trouble with vader m3 at the tracks here in CA but I believe his balance is set to full sharp. Do you want to see some of his videos at the track? If so just email me back with a shipping address and I'll send you a CD.

yeah I have the new profec b which has the screen, not the two separete knobs.

I haven't played with it yet but I will look into that setting to see if I can make it kick in smoother.

sent you my address. Thank you.

when i get the AEM harness made, and the basemaps, i will make it available to all bmw owners, dont worry.

its hard to find a system that has as accurate of boost control.

i know this may sound stupid, but the SRT-4 i have does it with flying colors.. by far the best turbo engine managemnt ive ever had experiance with, it has complete full throttle position dependant boost, if i hold 50% gas, to redline it ownt go over 6psi (12psi average is max, but it varys according to temps, to keep it consistant under WOT)
it drives completely like a n/a car, with just a split second of lag when you mat it

maybe there are boost controllers out there that let you have TPS input? if this is the case, then perhaps you can set up part throttle boost limitations

sound performance is building a custom turbo for me.

im going to have to notch my framerail on the passenger side to fit it with this :

blitz sbc-ID II is probably the best I've seen. You can control and map boost PER 100 RPM's ... amazing!
