| Posting on behalf of my friend .. 93 325i dilemma. Hi guys n gals, I'll keep this as simple as possible.. As the subject says im posting this for my friend (whom is technologically disadvantaged and has no computer )..He has a 1993 325i that has travelled a lot of kilometres ( something like 230,000km's ) and he is lusting for more power. He was thinking of going with a turbo kit, but i told him he would probably be best getting a new engine before thinking about it, as his engine was probably old and worn, and would blow from the boost.. (am i right?) What he wants to know is what kind of engine he should get ( be it an M3 engine, or just another 325 engine..) and what brand (if any) of turbo kits would be the best option? He is also wondering if he should just sell the damn thing and buy an FD RX7 - ![]() Any thoughts? apologies if this is in the wrong forum, or is a FAQ or something as such.. dont want to ruffle any feathers ![]() Rowan |

| Rowan, It's possible that with 230,000kms your friend has an engine in decent condition, although it's probably due for at least a compression/leakdown test and likely some maintenance work. That's about 140,000 miles, correct? If he wants to drop in a new engine for turbocharging, the 3.2 liter S52 converted to OBDI is a monster. Not sure of the legality of this down under. It's technically illegal in the US, but in FL no one cares. CA is different. However, an engine swap combined with a turbo isn't a wise choice economically unless he has a lot of irrevocable upgrades or is stuck with the 1993 325. An FDRX7 would be a great choice, or an M3 with AA's turbo kit. He could also look at superchargers such as Dinan's or AA's. But, since you guys are in Australia, why not a Skyline? ![]() |
