Uploading vids from MPEG2 format

I just bought a Sony DCR-SR82 camcorder to replace my old 5 yr old DV format cammy.

My video editing software I'm currently using is Womble Editor DVD. My question is just this:

How do I upload vids up to youtube?

I've tried a dozen conversion programs and formats but either they gave me crappy quality vids, or the file size was too much (one program converted a 5 minute clip into a 7.9GB file sized monster! Original clip was only 312mb)
and some of the formats that came out OK wasn't accepted by youtube.

My previous camcorder was in mini-DV format and I used Windows Movie Maker. Everything was a breeze until I got the new HD camcorder. 5 minute clips only took an average of 60mb which was an OK size for youtube.
