adding text with adobe premiere

anyone have any clue how to add text durring video. i know how to do a title which can be placed anywhere durring film . but i want to know how to text durring video. like an overlay. thanks,

the text optin isn't there, it only says file/new/title

Then what EXACTLY do you mean by text.

to have video going, then text to be shown on top of video, with video not stopping. then text go away, like street racing videos, text will appear in some videos to lable the cars.

Yeah File/New/Title is the right thing. You write in what you want, exit the window and it will prompt you to save it. Save the file, look in you project window, take it out of the project window and drag it into the timeline. This is the correct way to do with because I have been doing this myself for a while.

when i do that it stops showing the video and only shows what i put in the title screen. what version do you use ? i only have 6.0 ,

You have to change the opacity of the text layer.
