| Hmmm... How much? Check Pana GS-120 - might be littlebit more but way better (3ccd). HC30 is good but nothing special - just another home-video camcorder. |

| Personally. I like the sound quality. 16 bit audio. It's incredibly easy to use, the LCD has a touchscreen menu and it's compact and packs a pretty good punch. It also has a very good stability system that keeps the picture very steady. Last but not least, it has a very good picture quality. http://www.seattle5s.com/supra.wmv thats in 128 bit audio. I filmed it earlier today. If I were you though, I'd go for the DCR-HC40 like we talked about before. It's a nice step up and not much more.

| Every camcorder has 16bit sound. Bits are not as important as possibility to plug external mic and head phones. Also Sony's touch screen is a pain to use since its not that accurate and some features are hidden in menus where other brands have buttons accesible right away. Even my pos Canon for $300 has manual focus avaliable in 2 clicks. Last edited by G-Gore : 03-05-2005 at 08:38 PM. |

| you can also customize the menu and make it so you only have to press one button for manual focus. There's also night shot plus which is actually impressive. It's a great camera for the price. I've been nothing but impressed by it. Sure there's better ones. but not in it's price range.

| I'm not saying that its bad - I like quality of Sony products - just not digging their funcionality lately. But this should be everybody own decision after trying to use it for a while. |

| I heared from you bothe sides, pos and neg. I've asked the same question in other Israeli forum, and the comments were pos. The reasion I'm not going to purchase the hc40, is that idon't have enough money to but a memory stick, a stand for the cam and etc. So' I thought I wont pay that much for hc40, and buy hc30! I think I'll buy it and that's all! I would like to hear more comments! Have a nice week, Mikel

| By the way, The video which mitchel posted here, has nice qquality. Ofcourse there are better, and once again the problem of the money which I can give for cam is limited... So, I believe it will be enough for our club for the maintime (one year, maybe 2).

| HC-30 is lower model from HC-40. Both have one problem - the sensor was reduced from 1/4 inch to 1/6 inch, which means that quality of image is little bit worse then in older version of those cameras (TRV-19 and 22). I used TRV-22 and I must admit that its image quality is great for that price. BTW: those camcorders are very small and light - get additional bracket for better image stabilization.
