Polarg M12 bulbs melt housing?

I decided to buy some hyper white bulbs for my clear corners (in the front). I ended up buying the Polarg M14 21/5W clears (the same wattage as stock bulbs). I've heard the more powerful M12 35/5W bulbs can melt your housing and screw up your electrical system is this true? My mechanic strongly advised against going with more powerful bulbs. Has it happened to anyone?

I've go them all around and have had no problems. I've had my set-up for over a year.
