| Accusumps... How many people here have them in thier auto-x or track cars? It seams every car should have one of these, just wonderin' My Accusump install report from earlier today! I posted the install story in the messageboard on my site, click link or past the link below to read the story, see pics and see the info... http://bmw1602.lostbrazilian.com/for...34.msg51#msg51 for all my oil system pics use this URL, http://bmw1602.lostbrazilian.com/v1/...20Systems&pn=1 -PG

| 2002 oil pans M10 oil pans suck for any level of performance driving. these cars are notorious for eating #2 rod bearings due to the pump being uncovered and the oil sloshing to one side of the pan. The problems still contiued in the S14 motors. thsi is why you see Ireland egineering has an oil pan baffle that helps out alot but still not a total cure. the www.skidmarkracing.net guys came up with an even more elaborate oil pan but in the end the accusump really treats this problem when it occures even in a baffled car. more importantly....50% of engine wear is cuased at startup. cranking a dry engine. Since the accusump gives you oil pressure before you crank the motor it extends you engine life considerably. If you do any kind ofperformance driving I would recommend the baffles and the accusump.

| might I just play devils advocate and ask where you came across that figure that 50% of all engine wear comes from start up? If this were true then race car engines should just damn last forever as they're only started maybe 40 times a season vs normal street driven m10 which might be started 40 times a month. If you are worried so much about this crank/on bearing contact and that its so great then you might want to look into coated bearings as they will significantly reduce bearing wear from metal to metal contact. At around $30 a set I like my korman extra quart baffled race pan. looks like the skidmark guys copied it but didn't install the various flaps inside to keep oil from climbing the walls on left handers. My only problem with accusumps was that say you enter a long sweeping left hander. The oil runs away from the pickup. The accusump engages and dispenses oil. When the oil pressure returns it begins refilling itself on the straightaway out of the corner when the engine is under the most load by syphoning off "excess volume" that would have been bypassed. Probably not my favorite time to by taking excess oil out of the system. It also tries to run pressure back through the oil pump unlike their drawing on their website which the pressure magically just goes towards the engine instead of bothways from the T resulting in a reverse flow towards the oil pump. I also got second at state autox competition with a stock oil pan. I wouldn't says it's useless for any level of performance driving. Adding an extra quart of oil cures about 95% of your oil pressure problems till you goto full race levels. R comps and super tight left handers couldn't shake the pressure for more than just a blink. I guess it could be usefull in vintage events where drysumps arn't allowed and oilpans can't be modified for extra oil capacity.
