| turbo dreams when i was given my e21 i was told that the previous owner had a turbo setup for the car that i could have. unfortuinetly the owner has a major drug problem and in a fit he got rid of every spare part he had. now i am trying to find him but im not holding my breath on getting the parts. what i would like to know is what needs to be done to put a turbo in this car. i have heard you get the inter cooler from an audi and the turbo you get from a ford turbo coupe and someone across the pond makes a manifold for short money but what about electronics? also while turbo intercooled audis arent that hard to find turbo coupes are any other options out there? And one more thing can a bone stock m10 handle a turbo? |

| Ill refer this to my friend who knows about E21s. Sorry about the PO. I know where hes at with the drug situation and have been there, so I know its definitely not a good place but it can change. Its a shame to see people got through that but the only one that can change that is him. Anyways, Ill forward this to my friend.

| Youre not going to find a factory deuce turbo. Even less as a "rebuild" car. Sorry dude. Theres very few in the states like single digits or low double digits, I think. Doug help me on that one. There were 501/505/600 (depending on which BMW book you read) Sport Evos made and there are like 3-4 in the states (trying to give you a reference point). ALL of them people know what they are and arent letting go. Its not like the already rare E30 ///M3 or even rarer E28 ///M5 where you might find one that is owned by some idiot that just thinks its an old POS BMW, or someone that has beaten one to piss and will let it go for cheap. I know theres a guy that owns 2, he/his cars have been in magazines in random pics as of late. One silver with Alpina rims, and one Chamonix white one stock rims (my favorite). One has the non-factory reverse "turbo" decals on the front valance, and one has em. That decal was only for preproduction brochure pictures, the German Green party was putting major pressure on performance cars at the time in Germany and BMW decided not to go too far. Just like when the 3.0 CSL was bought, you had to order the Batmobile kit, and if you did order it, you had to get someone to put it on for you as it came neatly in the trunk un-installed from the dealer.

| Well i guess the next question is, which model/year 2002 are best to buy? I think Ill probably go with a turbo on it. I may leave it stock but i doubt it. Any advise is much appreciated |

| 1969 and earlier. Round taillights, and no smog. If you find a Tii in the round taillight model, youll have probably the most sought after deuce.

| ....weren't round taile '73 and earlier? Or was there some OTHER reason you were saying '69 and earlier Mariano? Just curious. ![]() The Factory turbo cars are already beyond rare these days, even more so here in the States. There are enough places out there that make parts for the '02 crowd that you could build a look-a-like, if you wanted the look and performance, but didn't really care if the car started life as a true Turbo or not. That would be WAAAAY less expensive, but if you've got the money and can source a true Turbo, don't let me stop you. They are great cars from what I've seen and read, but also HIGHLY sought after. If you are going to start from scratch and build a 2002 up as a turbo, I would THINK it would be better to go with a regular 2002. The tii cars are also becoming harder to find, so ripping one of those to shreds when there are plenty of other 'regular' '02s around would seem sorta harsh. But it would all probably boil down to how much you want to spend getting into a nice 'project car', and how much of a project you want it to be. If you happen to find a cherry tii in the range you were looking at spending to get INTO a '02, I say grab it and don't look back. As it is you won't be able to please EVERYONE with the car once you are done, so just concern yourself with making YOU happy with the final product, and get there by what ever means possible. ....damn that sounds like something that shoulda been in Wall Street.... Anyway, I hpe the main questions about what needs to be done for the turbo set-up were answered. And as stated above, Top End would be a great source for the products. If you are looking for something a bit closer though shady, there is always Korman. They still sell turbo kits for the M10 IIRC, but they also tend to charge a bit more since they've been around for a while and have a good name built up (ie they do quality work and have been racing for a while).

| Yup 73 and down have rounds and 74 and up are squares. Also, at least here in CA, 74 and down are smog free, thats why I have been having fun with my "go-cart". I was going to put a turbo on my car but for autocross, its pretty useless since you have the most fun with a turbo at higher speeds and rpm, but a 2002 at speeds past 85 feels like the world is going to end. I also had plans for a supercharger but had problems trying to fit it without it getting in the way of my 320 upgraded brake booster so I just went with a higher displacement with twin side 45's and a big cam with msd ignition, I love it. I still have my turbo kit, BAE manifolds and RayJay turbo without all the piping. It actually came off a 320i, piping was going to be no problem, any muffler shop could have taken care of that for me. I also have the audi intercooler. I have no use for all this and not really sure what condition they are in.

I really want to pick this car up, but i have a lot fo items to finish on my e36, so until then I am putting this idea on hold. Although the car i found is only $1400, and i was oging to offer $1,100 cash just to see if he would take it. the biggest thing for me is being smog exempt. |
