1973 2002 Tii parts availability

Hey
I am looking at purchasing a 1973 2002 Tii with the manual gearbox. Recently resprayed in fjord blue.

I was just wondering have any of you 2002 owners come across any issues with getting authentic BMW parts???

Also are there any majour issues with the 2002.

Also is there anything that i should check when going to look at the car??? I know the basics of how to check for dogy rust patches, and floor pan, under spare tire kinda thing. But are there any real problem area with the 2002 that should be checked???

Thanks all
Mitchell

there's tons that can and can't be wrong espically with a tii... the FI unit can have many issues.... honestly you don't know what your getting into so expect the worst. Many systems can need full replacing as the car is like 32 years old... it's gonna have wear and tear and need stuff like new bushings.. rust repair.. (they came with no inhibitor coatings back in the day) brakes, brake lines.. etc.. if your not mechanically inclined don't buy one...

No the Tii was a mechanical injection one. Youre confusing it with the 2002 turbo. The turbo was the one with the bulged fenders.

Nope,

IIRC...

There was the standard 2002 which had a single carb,
The ti (for touring international) had twin carbs,
The tii (for touring international injection) had mechanical fuel injection
Then there was the turbo.

I've had friends with both the standard and tii cars, the tii is fantastic when the system was working properly.

I'm not an expert on these wonderful things but I do know a couple

But like anything if its all looked after and cared for it could last almost forever

In response to Mitch, I think BMW still have some parts available but Jaymic in the UK does have parts available

http://www.jaymic.co.uk/

I think the '73 is the first model with the rectangular rear lights

Before I started looking for my 6er I was seriously thinking about a 3.0CS, talking to a BMW specialist convinced me that in Aus that was a bad idea at least as a daily driver.

Cheers,
Iain.

Bavariacars @ Gladesville. They specialise in 2002's. Erik's got 3 of his own. Give em a ring if your interested or head down there one Saturday morning and they'd be happy to steer you in the right direction

so this 2002 factory tubroed car seems to be extremely rare. So that probably means it ain't going to happen for me

I like the 2002 with the round tial light sin the back I think is was 71-72 something like that, again those seem to be really hard to find.

Is the turbo, considered a 2002tii turbo? I ask because I am trying to find one of these and i want to know EXACTLY what i need to look for.

thanks to all for putting up with my newbie questions

The model was called the 2002 Turbo, they only made 1672 cars, I think there are 2 here in Australia, most of the cars would have been for Germany.

I'd imagine some made it to the US, but they would have been private imports.

I googled for "bmw 2002 turbo USA" and found a couple for sale at

http://www.2002ad.com/pages/carsforsale.cfm

Pricey, but they are very rare.

Cheers
Iain.

Holy christ those look like Cali cars. If I saw one on the street, Id follow the guy and have to pull him over just to give him his well-due credit. Jesus, how beautiful that Chamonix white is.
