That is quite the pinch in the exhaust piping at the last bend before the muffler.

Although I don't think the TQ is impressive, it should be noted that the HP/L is even higher than the V10 in the M5...by a significant amount. Just something else to think about.

Its NA its obviously isnt going to be a TQ monster.

Watch when you start seeing the first BPU's come out, the power will go through the roof, especially an exhaust.

I totally agree. Look at the silly amount of power that people are making on M5s and M6es with just minor bolt ons (headers, catback, crank pulley, tune are getting anywhere from 475-490whp). This should definitely be fun to watch unfold.

the engine is a thing of beauty. and there is a reason the motor is the way it is. i don't know what the specs are, but im guessing the block is over-square. the rod length is shorter than the piston dia., to achieve the 8300 rpm redline safely. to high a piston speed and stuff gets nasty. this is probably the reason for your lack of torque. thats why most our u.s V-8's have so much. most are designed with square or under-square (rod length>piston dia.) motors. they have great torque and are good hot rod cars, but run out of steam early and can't turn the high rpm. and you could run 14:1 compression in the M motor and it still wouldn't get the #'s you want. this car was built to be a balance of engine and handling. and the motor was probably tuned to hint track bias, not street hot rod. if you don't like it don't buy one or bother thinking of one. if you want alot of torque, go buy a 2 ton GTO and put a blower on it. OR a diesel! i have some friends with trucks with 1,400 ft-lb

I suppose if I could find some positive correlation between the amount of torque a car's engine produced and the amount of fun I had driving it, I might be a little disappointed in the new V8, but offhand I don’t think there is any. Specs in general are fine to examine in the absence of time behind the wheel, as the case may be here, but the second you hit the go button in real time they don’t mean a thing. BWM has never, in my mind, produced an M3 that was anything less than extraordinary. My E36 makes 225lb.ft. of twist at 4250rpm and it still puts a grin on my face every time I drive it. I guess maybe I’m getting a little older or at least not quite the boy racer I used to be (it’s too expensive) but it shouldn’t always, if ever, be about beating the guy next to you. I enjoy BMW’s because I think they are the most fun to drive for any car in their segment and I’m certain the new M3 will be no exception despite the fact you won’t be able to pull you ski boat behind it. But that’s just me…

The new M3 is a sick car !...... BUT i still think they should have put the M badge on the 335i...... I spent $700 on a "turbo timer" or "plug in software" and the car is unbeatable !

Power and TQ output is weak for a 4.0 liter V8.

Porsche 997 GT3 RS has 415 hp and 300 lb.ft from a 3.6 liter flat 6. The numbers are close, but shouldn't be.
