new M3

so i was reading the new C&D the other day on the new Z4M and they mentioned that the new M3 is going to be the 4.0L V8. anybody else somewhat dissapointed with this? now don't get me wrong, i know it will be an amazing car, and probably faster than previous M3s, but i feel that the inline6 was the perfect choice. i think 6 cylinders is the perfect size for smallish, fast cars with tuning options. 8 cylinders starts heading towards more low-end power, and i like highrevs.

just a short rant. i'm sure that unless BMW seriously fucks something up, i'd still buy one in a heartbeat if i had the money!

i would put money on the fact that it revs to at least 8 grand, bmw is not one to bullsh*t on an engine. I don't think it will change the character of the car or anything. it will probably be lighter if anything since they'll probably use something other than an iron block. I mean they started out as four bangers, it's just the natural progression of things.

V8 sounds awesome tho.... Potential new M3 buyer here.... Hopefully it'll be easy to mod (maybe like the rustangs... turbo v8 m3's!!!!) and more room for performance improvement.

i dunno man they sound like they are heading towards american muscle territory, i dont like the sounds of that, i to like the i-6 but i cant wait to see the m3

what are u talkin about a V8 m3 would be awsum. Imagine the look on some guys face when he sees a little 3 series with the great thump of a V8. but I can also see that it’s a bit of a bummer that bmw didn’t max out a inline 6 but hay beggars can’t be choosers

whos the beggar?, i dont like the idea of making the m3 a v8, the m3 has been known for balace of handeling and power and efficiency, i dont know if the v8 will cut it, and my little 3-series pulled up next to a is300 turbo, i could hear the blow off valves, and smoked, the look on peoples faces has always been there, you just have to look through your rear view to see it

I think the new v8 is actually alot lighter they say, Plus bmw is going to start using turbochargers and superchargers instead of making bigger engines, because of Oil prices and stuff. Since bmw's arent the most fuel efficient. Im kinda sad about this cause all their naturally aspirated stuff was cool. but hey, they are right, turbo's in a bmw will be sweet, the new 335 ci will be the first turbo bmw in what 25 years? so their new cars will be cool, the new mini cooper s is gonna have a turbo I think that's awesome

Once you start driving on turbo, you'll get sucked in by it. I do love the handling and balance of the I-6's. The e46 m3 i drove was just amazing

Its going to basically be a E60 M5 V10 minus two cylinders. Its Formula One inspired, so the revs are going to be way up there.

why does everyone think that a inline six is more balanced then a v8. a v8 is a much tighter package therefore less weight over the front axel therefore better balance.

Out with the old, in with the new. The more cylinders, the smoother the engine~ I highly doubt BMW is going to come out with a product that's worst Sure purists might take a E30 over an E36, but the majority of us love our e36's~ for different reasons.
