The tech write up on engine configuration was one of the most interesting things I have read in years!
Smikle I think if they are prepared to use a V8 in the new M then changing the steering rack over won't pose a problem.
They sholud look into using real wood for the trim that would be something to talk about!!!

Odd. Considering its still in pre-production testing stages and its still at least another year before its due out.

i have faith in bmw, and yes i agree they are thinking more towards street car then race car, but they are just being practical, now a days no one is gonna buy a strait up race car like the e30 was in its day, theyre in it to make money to remember that

Thing is, if he saw it in person, that means that all the testing and suspension settings and bodywork was already decided on. Its still in its first stages of road testing, so how he saw the finished product if its still in its testing phase, is odd. Thats all. Im not talking shit about the guy.

I completely understand that to expand your market, you have to compromise and compromise to appeal to a wider audience. Im not an idiot. It doesnt take away what the raw, uncompromising cars of yesteryear were in terms of pure driver pleasure. Of copurse they are also expensive to maintain, tempramental, and not what you want to drive daily, hehe.

im not allowed to have cell phone/camera anything in some places i work, i saw it in the back parking lot where im not permitted to go, with it covered up mostly just in the headlights, but i saw the full rear n everything else also heard it start up. a few days ago we got wyclef jeans mclaren f1 in, all his service is done here. I as well saw the new z coupe a few weeks ago, decent lil ride from the front, not a fan of the hatch this place is pretty nuts with what i see everyday

You need to look at this in relative terms. The new engine will be a V8, so it will be wider but shorter than the I-6. As such the new M3 V8 will potentially give it a more neutral handling characteristic, as well as, a broader power band. The displacement is going up .8 liters to 4.0l, still very far from what one would consider, "american muscle". Compare to the charger srt8 at 6.1 liters and only 10 more hp. Granted, the srt8 most likely has more torque. The I-6 in the outgoing M3 had been in production and development for over a decade. You can only improve on something so much, the law of diminishing returns.

As far a comments on using forced induction for this new engine...the compression has to be through the roof. FI could be very difficult.
