They nearlly give the new S4 a perfect score!

Car and evo both think the m3 is better.

More importantly, the UK gets the M3 which we get here, versus the lower power m3 in the States.

At the end of the day, the line is very fine, and the m3 does not have 4wd which some may want, and the s4 arguably does not have as good an engine nor smg.

I just read the article and have a couple of more comments.

The audi s4 is european spec, the m3 is US spec!

I am no e46 m3 expert, but there is one thing i am sure of - the US spec e46m3 has brakes simmilar in size to the european e46 330ci (which are barely adequate IMO) - unlike the european e46m3 with it's drilled rotors.

That would solve the braking points then wouldn't it

When i saw the front and rear of the audi s4,you could mistake it for a 3.0!!! only silver mirrors, rims and that black stuff on the bottom of the doors (what is that for anyway?) seem to give it away. Very stealth.

My mate's dad was going to get an Audi S4 & 2 BMWs after his Diablo... but instead he went all out and bought a fully optioned SL-500. Hmmmmm.....

S4 is nothing special in my opinion.

Well, at least the M3 beat the S4 and C32 in every single performance catagory. Those are not subjective numbers.

The S4 does have a nice interior, but 3860 lbs!!! Sheesh.

Well seeing i get to drive an M3 everynow and again i have to say in my opinion its better than the S4 and im not being biased.
First of all it just looks better and is a more raw sports car. Two door coupe with 19inch alloys ( which mine has ) looks better than a 4 door V8. Secondly in the comparo the M3 is quoted to have 333hp when the australian version has 343 which means it has 3hp more than the audi S4 and weighs a hell of a lot less. The author of the comparo said the M3 has ' a heavy clutch '. Either he has a weak left foot or he got no idea about manuals. There is no way in hell the M3 has a heavy clutch. Ive been in thick sydney traffic and never once it has felt heavy. Also in the comparo the M3 beat the Audi S4 in 0-100km/h and quarter mile. Hmmm cant say the S4 is better than the M3...

Etez - your opinion is that the M3 is better than the S4 - but have you driven the new S4??? How are you not being biased if you've never driven it???

The new S4 may in fact handle better than an M3 - they did, after all, have time to match it to the e46 m3 since the M3 has been out for a while now.

I do agree though that they should have used a US spec car for both models - that was definately biased!!!

I also think that in the wet, the S4 would leave th M3 in its' tracks... debatable though -

If Audi is so good, why don't they make a v6 to go against the m3 instead of v8? Somehow I feel this article is more of promoting the Audi s4.

Mmm somehow i dun think the subject of the s4 beating the m3 in the wet is debatable.... awd is actually good for some things....

isnt the new S4 like going to be 30 grand AUD cheaper than a e46 m3...if so id go the new s4.

It probably will be - but that said, it may be hit harder by depreciation, in which case it would make better financial sense to purchase the M3 (if you have the initial cash or financing ability).

being a v8 driver myself
there is nothing sweeter than a V8 rumbling & lazy power
the e46 at deca was only marginaly fast ,my excuse is i didn't have a sway bar in the car so my" corner aproach speed"
was considerably slower than the m3.
one way or the other ,have,t got $150k lying around, so $50k
(bit less now) for the "Big Red" isn't too much considering.;

Personaly I'll go for the E46 M3 because it has won so many awards and that car is almost unbeatable.

Audi using a V8 already proves that it isn't as good. Having to use a V8 to compete with a smaller engine?
And 344hp (euro spec) compared to 343hp (euro spec) is identical.

Using a 4.2 V8 for 344hp against BMW's S54 which gives the same amount of power. Thats pathethic.

I also highly doubt Audi to take on BMW for dynamic capability.

u cant compare cars like that! its unfair!

im sure if BMW made a 4.2 v8 it would kill the S4!
