Question; Would A E46 M3 Engine Fit In A E36 Engine Bay

MY BROTHER TOTALED HIS E46 M3....HE ONLY HAD IT ABOUT 6-8 MONTHS....HIS INSURANCE COMPANY CONSIDERED IT A TOTAL LOST.......THIS IS WERE I COME IN AT. I HAVE A E36 318IS...

I WANT TO BUY HIS E46 BACK FROM THE INSURANCE COMPANY AND PUT THAT ENGINE IN MY CAR.

QUESTION; WILL IT WORK AND IS IT WORTH THE TIME.

I LIKE TO SHOUT ON THE INTERNET.

nothing in a car is ever the same after a wreak. Only do this if the accident was a rear one. and I have no idea about it fitting.

Interesting idea...if the crash was a rear one then go for it..but be prepared to turn the rest of the car into a machine that could handle such power..suspension n all that good stuf....you'll need some custom work too..drive shaft probably and the exhuast system.....good luck man

it can be done ...if you want to spend the money. But keep in mind the E46 is a partial drive by wire system. It will take some work to align the electronics. But it can be made to work just be prepared to be without a car for a while.

The S54 engine will fit, but the labour costs alone to wire everything will be insane. I won't say it's impossible (almost nothing is when it comes to engine swaps), it'll just be really pricey, and as ayton mentioned, it will take a while to do.

i have never seen documented evidence of this ever being done simply because the cost of such a conversion would probably cost as much as buying an e46 m3 in labour and fabrication alone. it would be sweet if it could be done though. the cost of the job would not be worth it unless you wanted to be the only one with it done. otherwise just buy an e46 m3.

the motor will fit in with little to no fabrications needed to be done, you will have to up grade nearly every thing on the car to have it run right. if you go the money they do it. or do this buy a newer bmw crashed or used and put the motor into it much easier to do. kinda like puting a b18c5 int oa 1988crx it can be done but it will take time and alot of $$$$$

"current M3 motor" was the euro E36 S52 NOT the current S54! that car is about 2 years old I have magazine article in which they tested that car.

Well, I guess that's the end of my dream. I guess i'm going to continue driving my 2 mph 318.
