Question E46 m3 engine swap??????

i know this might sound dumb to other people but just for the heck of it, is it at all possible to do into an e30???? i know i would have to rewire every thing........? hoe much would something liek this cost
and can anyone list the parts that are needed......
unless there almost the same as the E36 m3 engine swap.

thanx

Why not just drop in a Euro 3.2 S50? It's essentially the same.....

yea its the same and you don't have to deal with all of the wire crap. it would just be to big of a job and not worth it.

I dont know of anyone that has pulled this swap off...

but seriously, why would you want to? only the most perfect e30 would be deserving enough for the swap...

i would guesstimate the costs to be 15-20k, plus labor

the s54 is not a small, or light motor, its not heavy either... but yeah, you get the point

There's no way i would fork out money for an s54 given their recent reliability - Best off with an E36 M3 engine IMO.
Here in sydney there is a whole front cut of an E36 M3 3.2 with 6 speed (we got Euro engines) and everything else for AUD $14,000. Thats about US $7500. I'd say you could talk the seller down too.

Why Dude? Euro S52! It's been done! The S54 is going to be headache upon headache, i GUARANTEE it. Plus it will be much more money than you are willing to spend.

Yeah, I'll take one too

There's a post around somewhere on DTM with an e39 m5 engine stuffed into an E30 M3.

Seem's like the Euro E36 engine would be the way to go...pretty similar output to new e46 US M3...

IMHO, I don't see how this is really any differant then the S52 swap. Yea, there are more electronics, but if you didn't want to deal with them, then just use a stand alone ECU like Motec to control the engine.

The thing is cost! I bet in there will be one soon, if they can put the M5's V8 in there, and then the old M5's S38, the S54 is not all that hard.

Actually, they dropped the dealer cost on the M3 engines by a ton. Someone posted it on roadfly a few months ago.
