oil weight for e46 m3 engine

im getting oil today for my 2002 m coupe...it has 2000miles on it and im not sure what weight to add. what weight is factory fill on a 2002 m3 (north america if that matters) what do you reccomend for a m3 driven hard in southern california. thanks

btw factory fill said something like 10w 60 that seems like a very heavy weight....i let the car warm up plenty before i drive the car hard, i want the best protecion for my baby

BMW recommends:

Castrol TWS Motorsport 10W-60 Synthetic
Castrol Formula RS 10W-60* Synthetic

10W-60 is the correct weight for E46 M3's.

Trust me, you want to use that weight and not anything less.
