as wierd as it sounds, the E36 M3 is not that good looking to me, ive driven it very impressive lots of power, but theres just somthing i cant put my finger on that i dont like about it, well as for the car being over powered for me I will somewhat have to agree, i am an inexperenced driver, and believe it or not im not going to go out racing it, theres nothing to proove i already know i will win most of the races, its just plain stupidity, only place i will race is at the track, now the thing is heres my plan, i will go ahead and go for the E46 M3 comming in a few weeks, since the resale value is so high its not even funny I will be able to sell it now in a year and loose little, but i am going to have to say, if everything go as planned which probably wont, i should beable to also pick up an fixer uper E30 M3 for $10G's thanks guys for your help, last night made my decision it was the first time ever its wierd but i had a dream i was driving my baby, and i saw the mileage go upto 96,000 136,000 meaning i will probably have it for a long time.

E46 M3= overweight 330 with hot motor and body kit

E30 M3= winningest touring car in history, already a classic, the epitome of a sports car.

do what you want, if impressing people you dont know is worth working your ass off, by all means do that.

persoanlly, i don't think an immaculate e 30 m3 or a e 46 m3 belongs in the hands of a teeanger. but the lesser of two evils would be an e 30 simply because its a better investment. whatever you get, appreciate it, and take care of it and it will take care of you.

First why get the E30 when you can get the E36 for about 25K? Second, if you want that E46 enough, you will be willing to work for it. And come on man, you will only have to work 5 hours a day. You've gotta take chances in life and go for the big things that you want. I say work and get the E46. Sure you're only 17, but I was racing SCCA mustangs when I was 17. Not legally of course-I didn't have the money for it-but I would take a few hot laps in my cousins stang. It was fun looking at the response on everyones face when I would post lap times faster than half of the field out there and I had no racing experience. Some of us where born to drive and others weren't.

Get the E46, just don't kill yourself.

IMHO

I'd say forget the E30,
Forget the E36,
Forget the E46,
and get a PHAT ASS BUS PASS!!!

Take some time to think about what YOU want and not what everyone else wants you to get.

If you have to have one right now, i'd go with the E30-E36.

if i were you, id wait a couple of years before you got either. get something with less than 150 hp and learn about really driving before getting a sports car. i dont care how mature you think you are at 17 (i know all of this from experience by the way) or how smart you may or may not be, any male at that age in any car that is fast is going to get into alot of trouble with the law or even worse get himself or others hurt. wait till you're at least 19 and then get either one. a couple of years makes a huge difference. and for pure driving enjoyment, go with the e30 m3 and spend the change you have on making it the way you like it. i dont even know why im typing this now since it seems as though you have made your decesion. have fun either way!

damn just get the e46 m3... i dunno how u drive or anything, but i hate it when people say, oooh m3 is too overpowered for a first driver. I assume u've had ur license for a while, and have driven ur parents' cars before.... Shit, if u know how to control the car, when not to push it, when to push it , etc... power won't mean shit if u do it responsibly. I can go out and kill myself in a civic or an m3. Drive responsibly and you'll be ok on ur own part.

Why not get a E46 M3 and also get like a 3k honda or some piece like that. Take the honda to a HUGE industrial parking lot and drive the hell out of it .. try everything. When you figure out how what mistakes are made and how you will know not to do it in you M3.

If i ever get enough money to buy a car i would want to get some piece of shit just to drive its guts out and learn. Then when i get a nice car i wont have to make as many mistakes as a new driver would!

I agree with Mazenz. I can also speak from experience. I think exactly like you in the sense that if I had an E46 M3 I would not be racing it around. But let me tell you the truth, once you get behind the wheel of that car and start to feel like your comfortable in it, you'll start goosing it. I'm really glad my parents made me drive an old, slowa$$ 4runner for three years. When I finnally got my 328is, I was like "whoa this has a lot of power", and it made me appreciate it more. I was actually scared of driving it for over a month because of the difference. Now that Im use to it, I appreciate the power I do have, and would like more, except I know I would get in trouble with it. Going on twenty and never been pulled over (knock on wood). I say go with the E30 (even thats a really quick car). Plus if you get use to the power of the E46, your never going to be satisfied with any other car you buy, unless you get an exotic. And I say enjoy what youth you have left, instead of working it away. Going to school takes up enough time from having fun. I have friends that thought they would buy expensive cars and just work and pay them off, but they regret it. BTW have you looked into what the insurance payment on that baby would be? Anyways good luck with your decision. Hope I didn't scare you.

coulnd say it better, i agree i know when to push it and when not to, currently im driving a 140 hp chevy cavalier fwd so i can push that thing as hard as i want, when i get in dads 97 328ic i take corners nice n slow i punch i know my abilities, and as i said in my post im not gonna invest any money into mods until i can fully trust my self with the car and have an race track to do it on, and dsc stays on, and i know not to act stupid and do something as go 110 down sunrise where its cracking with peds and cops, not to mention lots of light poles , and all my mod moneys going for dirivg schools

I'd get an E36 M3, the E46 is still a little too big of a commitment for a first car. Who knows, in a year you may develop a liking for Porsches
