| E36 vs e46 m3S. Im mostly on the E36 forums since i own a 325. But recently ive been planning to get a M car. so im debating which one is better, the OBD1 95 M3s or the E46 M3s. There was an article on which was better on the E36 forums and most people said that the E36 M3 are better cars because their more responsive and the E46 M3s are heavy and sluggish although a very smooth ride. Just want to ask you guys which u like better since asking the E36 forums can get u bias feedback. Ive met and talked to a couple of E46 M3 owners and theyve owned the E36 M3s and they liked the E36 better. |

| The E36 M3 handles better but is underpowered bigtime unless you get the e36 Euro 321 bhp model m3. Both are great cars, with either you will be happy. Right now an e36 M3 is very cheap and you can have lots of fun upgrading it. The same cannot be true of the e46 M3 its expensive and already tuned to the max but SMG II kicks so much ass you may want to opt for an e46 M3 after all. | SMG isn't that bad. Just takes some getting used to. However I do agree that for racing from stops. However on the street I feel it is a lot better than a standard. The upshifts and downshifts are flawless -Art

| After 3200K, wouldn't buy an E46 M3 without SMG.

| One consideration is what you want from the car. The E36 has many mods available for it. There are a few new SC packages coming to market and at least one is positive displacement. This means the E36 is an excellent platform to use for a high HP rocket that won't set you back as much as the E46. The E46M3 is fast, but there isn't much you can do to the motor. I think it will be a few years until we start to see effective mods for this car. |
