| e46 m3 break in Alright, I am almost past the 1200 mile break in and I am about to schedule my engine/diff oil change appointment. My question is, can I really open up the car when I get it back? I have heard people say to increase rpms gradually over the 3100 mile break in period but is that really necessary? Who has done it and who has not? AdamR |

| If you read the windshield sticker, there is only a top speed restriction after 1200 miles. And until 03 models, only the diff and trans fluid gets changed, not engine oil. And it can't hurt to slowly increase max rpm's , but they say it's okay after 1200 then it must be okay.....right?

| I've got 2000 m on my M, and check my oil every fill up. Followed break in procedure, and as kvcicca noted, it can't hurt to gradually increase the RPM's like I have done. I haven’t yet had to top off my oil.

| sets the seals, manifolds, gaskets, bearings, ect into place, and at the end of the break in period ur engine is 50 or 60 hp more cause the seals have set place and everything is in order. |
