| e30 M3 vs. e46 M3? hey... I know that a e46 will pretty much smoke a e30 in a straight line, but I was just wondering what are some differences between like a 1989 M3 and a 2001 M3.stuff like luxury, handling, speed, etc... |

| matters what floats ur boat i guess.....i think the 2001 is better in luxury department....and speed..and handling..well hell its newer...but agian its up to u and what ur taste in carz is! ![]() |

| but its not enough to change the ride i dont think.....u can alwayz live with the understeer.....also i was just told this....i dunno if it true...that the e30 has a delayed take off..i dunno what he meant by that...but im just wondering if its true? |

| I would have to say E30... not only because I own one and love it to death, but that it is the ture ///M car... I think that the E36/E46 ///M3's have lost the true reason the ///M3 was produced. That was to race, and its not a luxury car, its a race car. I prefer the feeling of a car stripped down, light, and with lots of driver feedback. thats what makes an enjoyable driving expirence in my mind.... E46's are dope, but if they were worth the same, I would have the E30. Just my 2 cents.

| Of course it does... that's what happens with staggered tires and equal weight dist. - Beau Quote:

| I just drove the E46 Over thanksgiving i drove an E46 M3 for the first time. First off, I have a 1990 M3 with H&R Springs, Bilsteins shocks...and a borla and conforti chip. So my car obviously handles well, but doesn't pull like a new car. I thought the new M3 was ridiculous. It was so god damn fast I couldn't believe it. The transmission felt great, the steering was quick, and the power went to the ground nicely. Although, the clutch felt like a rubber band, I didn't really care for it. Handling was a different story. First off my car is about what 2800lbs and I think the new M3's are about 3400 lbs. That E46 felt really heavy to me. I thought there was no way it handled as well as my E30. I have skinny little tires and 15" wheels, but man does my E30 feel lighter around the corners than the E46. I love my E30 so much and I don't think I would sell it for an E46 M3. But...I would definitely take the E46 M3 as the daily driver and the E30 as the weekend car. I know it sounds funny, but that is how I want it. That's the best I can do. Fast as hell, but felt heavy and not nearly as nimble as I expected based on what I have read. Handling was by no means bad, but drive my car and then the new one and it doesn't feel so good anymore. Just my .02, hope that helps Dave |

| Re: Re: I would have to say E30... Really, really, really, and I mean REALLY bad comparison.. ..BMW put a new engine in the E46 because it couldn't keep up with the Porsche machines cruising around. The competition had a bigger engine...Not a whole lot can be done but put more motor in the car. I'm not familiar with what other car manuf. of the E30s day were up to, but apparently it was sufficient to win. By no means does the change in engine selection reflect the capabilities of the E46. Anyway, in every measurable sense (aside from weight) the E46 is a better car...Acceleration, handling, comfort, build quality, everything...Now in the non-measurable stuff...The E30 shines...Feedback, road feel, exclusivity, connection w/ the car...I could go on...Just depends on what you want to feel, and of course, what you want to spend... , but I mean come on guys..If someone said they would give you an E46 if you sold your E30 M3 you're telling me you wouldn't do it???????? | I drove almost every Bmw cuz I used to work at a Bmw dealership. My opininon is E30 M3 is the most fun you will experience in a BMW. It might not be powerful in stock form, but if you modify it, it will be very exciting to drive... |
