What was the problem w/ the E46 M3 engine oil?

I recall there being a post regarding the E46 M3 and a specific engine oil that it had to use. What engine oil was it and what was the problem in the case where a different engine oil was used? Thanks

castrol synthetic 10W60. its mucho expensive, and you'll only find it at the dealer, or a private service center that buys the stuff.
