02 E46 M3 vs 98 E36 M3 w/ Dinan Supercharger

Met up w/ a 98 M3 owner w/ these mods:
Dinan powerdyne charger, HFM, Throttle Body, Schrick Intake Manifold, 30lb injectors, 12lb flywheel, and SS DTM Exhaust.
From the entrance ramp I was around 30mph and he was about a car length behind. We both jumped on the gas and by the time we had run through a few gears I was gone. Probably at least 4-5 car lengths.

Next test we were next to each other cruising at around 65-70mph. We both hit it at the same time and he hung in there for a second or two. Then as he shifted I saw him drop back a car length and I was @ 7000rpms =). Kept pulling and pulling all the way up to 8000. Thats where I really put some ground b/w us.
But that supercharged M3 was quick.. Wish I had put one on my E36 M. He dynoed 280 at the rear wheels.

He must not be running too much boost. I have seen S/C M3's that were putting quite a bit more than 300 hp on the ground. Not to say I wouldn't DIE for that much power on mine.

Needless to say, nice kill, and NIIIIIICE car.

Peace.

This is the reason I SC my M3, because I can not get an E46 M3.
(The wife says House and X5 first)

I had a run in with an E46 M3 and we were even (well i was ahead by maybe a foot) to 145 (from 60)when we shut it down. And NO we did not go for a second run....I was afraid Heat Soak will make me loose....

Any way the car dynoed at 307 RWHP at 6PSI

Sounds better to me! If I'm going to run a S/C, I'm going to use it for all its worth!

Peace.

How did you get 304 ft lbs to the rear wheels with an SC? Mine was maxed at 258.

I liked the Dinan SC, because it was an easy buy/install.....no need to do any tunning to get 307 at the rear wheels.

Are powerdyne's not as powerful as the vortech counterparts? I've heard a few instances now of a supercharged vortech e36 M3 and an e46 M3 running, and they were pretty much neck and neck.

As I said you are the first SC car i know of that put over 300 ft lbs of torque to the REAR wheels.

As far as getting smoked...I know I can match an E46 M3 HP....how much torque do they put down to the rear wheels?

My Powerdyne blown 95 M3 was dead even with an E46 M3 in 75 degrees

At the time I was running 290RWHP in 86 degrees with 6lbs of boost.

Now I have removed my cats, and swapped gears for a 3:23,
and I know I can take the E46 now. Especially in the cold weather. I must have 300RWHP now. Will test soon...

My torque is about 260-270 or so at the wheels, so I have no idea how that dude got 310 ft/lbs. I have headers, pulley, and I know that no chip in this life time is going to increase torque by 40ft/lbs!!!!

I have to say that an E46 pulling 5 cars on a SC M3 is not realistic.
He must have had a boost leak, or it was heat soaked on a very hot day.
I was a little slower than the E46 on a 95 degree day, so anything is possible. But even then it was NOT 4-5 car lengths...

I want the water injection with 7.5 lb of boost. This should make things interesting....

Well, the E46 M3 torque figures from the factory are about 262 ft-lbs. so probably around 240-ish ft-lbs. at the rear wheels. I saw a dyno of Josh at Eurosport's E46 that confirms this.

Dont you think the AA water injection is a little steep?
A friend showed me one sold by Jackson Racing (ok they do Honda and Miata but this is not rice) fro $580. I figure water injection is water injection. I have not had a chance to call them yet, but they do you an Aquamist system. They also say the system is complete, so I assume its more than whats pictured...Maybe all that is required is some tuning on the amount of spray form the nozzle.

4-5 car lengths from 30 through a couple of gears is correct. I though it would be closer. I know he was putting down more torque than me, b/c he had his dynoed, so the difference must have been the 8000 rpm redline. Actually I think it's more like 8100.

It's not really just the 8000rpms, It's the 3:65 rear end differential.
That makes the gears slip by fast, topped with the crazy shift line.
Makes a killer combo. Nice kill.

Dinan must not make a very robust SC then. I told you my outcome.
I will race this guy again with the winter air temps, which will favor my configuration.
