importing e46 m3 Cab

This sounds completely insane... but i was thinking about how to import an e46 m3 convertible into australia...

By any chance does anyone know if bmw germany might be able to sell RHD direct? I figured i would get one not so highly specced (don't care if there is no TV etc) to make it cheap, then bring it over.

Another problem is i am not australian so i don't know how to go about doing it. Anyone know if there i a european importer around?

There must be a way to do it... it should be the first (or second) m3 cab in australia... there could even be a potential business in it if people wnat one here... although they won't get the 2 year warranty. However, if they save 40,000$ i doubt they will mind - that saving can fix almost anything!

Any leads for euro importers?

Cheers,
Oliver

G'day Ollie...

I reccomend contacting Alex 'djbeemer' on DTM (http://forum.dtmpower.net/member.php...nfo&userid=281) ... ... I remember Alex doing a lot of research into the feasibility of E46 330Ci Convertbiles and E46M3 Convertibles, and creating them RHD and 'Aussie' Spec in order to take delivery in Australia...?? I cannot remember specifically, however, I remember Alex posting a thread about it ... contact him via PM, he is an extremely helpful individual, and should be able to at least provide you with some information... !!

Hope that helps... In terms of Terms/Regulations and what not in that respect, contact the RTA as they are actually more than helpful in terms of converting cars to RHD or importing Vehicles and what not... ... however, I am sorry I cannot be of more specific help... ...

Good Luck Ollie... In respect to your plans... all I can say is ... ... followed by... and... !!

Cheers...

Hi KR-318 (sorry dont know your real name mate... not yet!!!!)

I will definately buy the card in RHD form from the factory (eg second hand from the UK)... UK second hand M3 is AU$110,000 which is the same as 330. of course, tax has to be paid here as well as transport, but it will not become more than what bmw AU will charge for a new m3cab.. also if it is the first in then there is a very real chance i can sell it for about 180 or 190k...

i have a friend working in bmw germany, so i will see if he can help me, hopefully you guys will see an m3 cab in the future instead of the volvo heheheh

O.

Hahaha... ... Ollie, its me Kevo (CosmosAussie)... ... Just had a change of name... !!

The Volvo is a pretty schmick car though... ... I saw one of the current/old spec V70R launch at a set of lights, and they aint no slouch... ....however, I still love my friend Peta's E39 540iT - Topaz Blue Station Wagon, with Angels ... now that is one farkin sweeet wagon... .... Either Way, stick with Bimmer blood and you will be happy...hehehe, good luck with all your plans anyways, and keep us all up to speed with it !!

Btw.... Any thoughts of keeping the 330Ci... ?? Or nope... ??

Ollie, try sending an e-mail to BMW in germany or in the UK. I suspect you've stayed away from BMW Australia because they're going to give you too much trouble and it's going to cost too much through them.

Let us know what the response is

Ollie,

I know that Alex was planning to trade in his existing ride for a custom individual Black on Black E46 M3 Convertable. I know that he was getting it built in Australian specification with a letter of authenticity so that when he brought it over here to Aust after having it in Germany for a while, he would be able to get the real compliance plate for it as if it has come strait here, but would mod it first in Germany where it is far cheaper

If you were to do this, unless you had someone who could do all the legwork for you, you would probably need to take a trip over there to get it all sorted, but that would be good fun anyway. I would seriously think about doing this, it would be very very good...

Totally possible to do though, apparently the only thing stopping Alex (DJBeemer) from doing it was financial constraints.

Let us know what you find out though mate, I'm very interested to see what happens.

hurdle

Of course nothing is going right this week... the latest addition being the fact that I am not an AU resident/citizen and I have nt owned the car overseas for 3 months. Also no one wants to insure a car not available here.

This is not my week that is for sure.

Will keep you all posted how it goes - i see second hand m3 cabs in the uk for 110,000AU$.. yummm

o.

Lol... I don't think Alex will approve, I think thats why he has the Boxter though, its a convertable.... besides, you would loose time on the track due to changes in stability.... you know that don't you Marc

That pic looked spankerific Ollie!
Even us Benz peeps miss out on a quick drop top, The AMG CLK55 Cabriolet. If I hear that lame ass "There's no market in Australia for that type of car" excuse one more time, I'm gonna kill someone!
We even miss out on a 4ltr V8 Diesel ML and S Class!
